Col. Richard Kemp and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters: A Stand-Up Bloke, And A Pathetic Joke

I was in San Francisco this week at an AIPAC luncheon featuring Col. Richard Kemp, the former commander of British forces in Afghanistan. Col. Kemp delivered an impassioned speech emphasizing two points: the IDF is the most moral army in the world; and those who seek to delegitimize Israel deliberately refuse to look at the facts. In the latter regard, he especially focused on Goldstone and the BDS movement–a movement that picked up the endorsement of Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters yesterday.

Not that anyone should care what Roger Waters thinks (he has been a closet BDSer for years); his written speech at the media event illustrated Col. Kemp’s point exactly. Waters remarked that “the Wall is an appalling edifice to behold. It is policed by young Israeli soldiers who treated me with disdainful aggression. . .[because of this] I decided to support the Palestinians in their civil, nonviolent resistance.”  Appalling? The Wall has stopped Palestinian suicide bombers from killing hundreds of Israeli civilians. Disdainful aggression? Gee Roger, so the soldiers guarding the separation barrier did not bend down and worship you. Civil, nonviolent resistance? In recent years, the Palestinians have sent over 15,000 thousand rockets and mortars into southern Israel targeting Israeli civilians.

In every sense, Col. Kemp is a stand-up bloke, and Roger Waters is a pathetic joke.
