Well it had to happen. It turns out that Osama Bin Laden was a Zionist.
Ismail Kosari, a member of the Iranian parliament’s Security and Foreign Policy Commission and a close affiliate of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: “He was just a puppet controlled by the Zionist regime in order to present a violent image of Islam after the September 11 attacks.”
The amazing thing is that ridiculous statements like Kosari’s have resonance throughout the conspiracy hungry Middle East and world. Within 24 hours of Bin Laden’s death, the conspiracy theorists were already comparing the shape of Bin Laden’s compound with the shape of Israel. The idea that everyone is just a puppet of Zionists is a page taken straight out of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.
Speaking of the Elders, Elder Jimmy Carter, ever the apologist for the Arabs, is at it again–now encouraging international support for the Hamas-Fatah reconciliation agreement that was inked this morning. Carter says if such support is not forthcoming: “the situation in the occupied Palestinian territory may deteriorate with a new round of violence against Israel.”
Apparently, if the Palestinians don’t get their way, there’s just no telling what they might do–the third intifada is just around the corner. And once again, the onus is on Israel. If Israel refuses to talk to an organization committed to its destruction, Israel will be responsible for Palestinian violence. In Carter’s world, the Palestinians are always the victims and never responsible for anything.
Another gem from Carter: “Israel and the United States are concerned that Hamas could use a unity government to launch attacks against Israel. I have visited the Israeli border town of Sderot and share their concern. I urged Hamas’s leaders to stop launching rockets, and they attempted to negotiate a lasting mutual cease-fire. The United States and other Quartet members should assist Hamas and Israel’s search for a cease-fire.”
What planet is Jimmy Carter living on? Hamas could use a unity government to launch attacks against Israel? Hamas has already launched over 750 rockets against Israel since the last so-called cease fire. Hamas attempted to negotiate a lasting mutual cease-fire? Hamas’s search for a cease fire? Carter’s revisionist history is simply nauseating.
Crazy and crazier–this is the reality that Israel is confronted with on a daily basis. Finally, one funny sidebar. Yesterday’s Fatah-Hamas reconciliation ceremony almost did not come off. Just before the meeting started, Khaled Meshaal was told he could not sit on the podium with Mahmoud Abbas. A verbal fight ensued whereby in exchange for the seat, Meshaal was allowed to give a speech. A harbinger of things to come?
israelstreet fact of the day:
The next time you hear the canard that Israel is blockading Gaza and denying ‘humanitarian’ necessities to reach the poor, starving Palestinians, remember this number: 4756 trucks
In March, the Israeli Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) permitted the entry of 3,656 trucks carrying goods (mainly food and medical supplies) to the Gaza Strip in March via the Kerem Shalom border crossing. Additionally, the IDF and the Defense Ministry Crossing Authority allowed an additional 1,100 trucks carrying aggregates (mainly construction materials) to enter Gaza via the Sufa crossing.
