Today, I ask you to put yourself in the place of an Israeli–and try to imagine what it is like to live in the pressure cooker that is Israel.
It’s not enough that you have to get up in the morning, get your kids off to school, and go to work–all the while worrying that there might be a terrorist attack somewhere near you or that a missile siren might go off and you will have to head for a bomb shelter.
This is what you hear when you turn on the morning news: Syria is vowing to send thousands more protestors to try to breach the northern border of Israel; Egypt has just announced that it has legalized the Muslim Brotherhood as a political party (a party that has the avowed goal of abrogating the treaty with Israel); Iran now has submarines operating in the Red Sea off the coast of Eilat; Iran is now only 2 months away from building a nuclear bomb–and Ahmadinejad says that no Western incentive will stop Iran from enriching uranium; Hamas has stockpiled over 10,000 rockets in Gaza.
And, as an Israeli, you realize that today is no different from any other day–when the forces arrayed against you are doing their utmost to eliminate you from the face of the planet. Yep, it’s just another day in the Middle East.
Here’s your trivia question of the morning: what do Tehran Iran, Riyadh Saudi Arabia, Jerusalem Israel, Moscow Russia, Beijing China, and Washington, D.C. all have in common? Answer: They all have people who follow this israelstreet blog! Every once and a while I like to thank my readership–and today is that day.
