UPDATE: REPORTS OF PALESTINIANS THROWING ROCKS AT ISRAELI VEHICLES IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT SAMARIA.
Some days it is just impossible for your humble servant to focus on one story in the news. Today’s news has three stories that are astonishingly absurd.
Take the case of Islamist Sheikh Raed Salah, an Israeli-Arab who heads the northern branch of the Hamas-inspired Islamic Movement. Salah’s organization regularly publishes anti-Semitic literature that calls Jews “monkeys” and “germs”, and Salah himself has been imprisoned numerous times in Israel on terrorism-related charges.
As a result of Salah’s sordid activities, the United Kingdom put him on an exclusion list denying him entrance to the UK. However, because this exclusion order was sent to the wrong terminal at Heathrow Airport in June, Salah waltzed into the country without a care. Three days later, after Salah had made speeches all over London, he was arrested and eventually deported.
On Friday, Mr. Justice Nicol who sits on the High Court of London ruled that Salah can sue the British government for ‘false imprisonment’–not because the exclusion order was illegal–but because Salah’s human rights were violated because the reasons for his arrest were not explained to him in a timely way and they were not explained in Arabic. Salah’s lawyer announced that he plans to seek “thousands of pounds” in compensation.
Can you believe it? An Islamist terrorist leader who is banned from entering the United Kingdom but does so anyway and is then arrested and sent home can now sue the British government because his exclusion order was not explained in Arabic? Absolutely unbelievable.
Next comes the case of the head of Hamas, Khaled Mashaal, and his dying mother. Mashaal’s mother was so sick that he spent all weekend in Iran attending the 5th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada–another bogus conference dreamed up by Ahmadinejad along the lines of his annual Holocaust Denial Conference.
In a speech to the so-called delegates, Mashaal ranted that “Palestinians must resort to resistance no matter how costly it is, until Palestine is free and Israel is destroyed.” Shortly thereafter, it was announced that Mazen Saket, the Jordanian interior minister, has given Mashaal special permission to come to Jordan to visit his dying mother in the hospital.
According to reports this morning, Mashaal’s mother is actually in the pink of health and her supposed hospitalization was merely a ruse to get Mashaal into Amman so he can discuss moving Hamas headquarters from Damascus to the Jordanian capital. This is just one more indication of how the supposedly peace-loving King Abdullah of Jordan is falling all over himself to embrace Jordan’s Islamists–a movement your humble servant predicted months ago. Absolutely pathetic.
Finally, we come to case number three and comments made by U.S. President Joe Biden, as was reported in the New York Times today.
The story goes that Biden was in Florida meeting with rabbis in order to shore up Obama support for the election next year because polls show that the same Florida Jews who helped propel Obama to the Presidency in 2008 are deserting him in droves.
Yet Biden did little to make the situation better. First, he dissembled that “the administration had made a few missteps in its handling of the Israel relationship.” A few missteps? During the first two years of Obama’s presidency, the Obama Administration made Israel a pariah over the issue of construction in Jerusalem and in Judea and Samaria.
But then, Biden stuck his foot in his mouth even deeper when asked about Jonathan Pollard who has now been in prison for over 25 years. Revealing that President Obama had actually been considering pardoning Pollard, Biden said that any pardon Obama issued would be “over my dead body.” Incredibly stupid–and perhaps bye bye Florida.
