All of Israel is now under alert.

Southern Israeli has spent the the last 27 hours in bomb shelters. No one is supposed to venture outside. All gatherings have been canceled; and schools have been called off all over the South including in Ashdod, Beersheva, and Ashkelon. MADA reports that at least 15 Israelis have been wounded or injured (some seriously) by shrapnel from Qassams and Grads fired by the Hamas terrorists in Gaza.

As of 10:00 this Saturday night, israelstreet counts 118 missiles that have been launched against southern Israel since 6:48 Friday evening. This number is literally changing by the minute and is difficult to be exact about because of numerous reports coming in from numerous locales.

Cities and towns that have been hit (multiple times) so far include: Ashdod, Ashkelon, Beersheva, Sderot, Galit, Ofakim, Kiryat Malachi, Gadera, Netivot, Sha’ar Hanegev, Nahal Sorek, Kibbutz Beeri, Gilat, and other communties throughout the Eshkol, Chof Ashkelon, and northern Negev regions. In the last 5 minutes, there have been more incoming rocket sirens for Gan Yavne and Ashkelon.

According to the IDF, the Iron Dome system has been about 90% effective, shooting down more than 30 rockets fired at Beersheva, Ashkelon, and Ashdod; however, the missiles that it has missed have caused significant damage.

IAF attacks in Gaza have killed 16 terrorists in the last 27 hours–mostly as they were attempting to launch missiles. Nothing is apparently being done to root out the terrorist leaders of  Palestinian Hamas.

It is worthwhile to remember that whereas Hamas claims that this latest barrage of missiles is the result of Israel’s targeted assassination of the senior leader of the PRC committees yesterday afternoon, Hamas has never stopped firing rockets at Israel–averaging at least two a day since January 20th.

The situation in southern Israel will never improve until the Hamas leadershop is rooted out of Gaza.
