UPDATE (5:00 am Thursday): Eilat was hit by three terrorist rockets around midnight. No further info.
UPDATE (5:00 pm Wednesday): The IDF has just raised the terrorist alert level to “high” in the South.
There is no other way to say it.
Ehud Barak, the Defense Minister of Israel, is a disgrace to his office.
Defying a Cabinet decision to give the Jewish community members until April 26th to show that they legally owned the Machpelah House near the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hevron, Ehud Barak decided on his own to send in soldiers to clear out the homeowners.
Officers under the control of Barak raided the home early this afternoon and cleared the house within minutes. Despite what Barak would have us believe about “violent” “right wing” “extremist” Jewish community members, the evacuation was peaceful and took place without incident.
After the evacuation, Barak issued this disingenuous announcement: “I will continue to work towards upholding the law and democracy while safeguarding the State’s authority over its citizens.”
“Upholding the law and democracy”?
What a joke.
Ehud Barak has spent the last three years sitting on his hands while Southern Israel has been hit with over a thousand rockets–refusing to order the IDF to take action against the Palestinian terrorists firing the missiles. He has done nothing to uphold the law or the ability of citizens of southern Israel to live freely in a democracy.
Ehud Barak has shown himself particularly incapable of anticipating Palestinian terror attacks and has engaged (along with his lackey IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz) in a policy of appeasement toward those same terrorists. He has done nothing to safeguard Israeli citizens.
Ehud Barak is the same Ehud Barak who offered Yasser Arafat the deal of a lifetime a decade ago–offering to give up Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem and in the Jewish communities of Judea and Samaria. He has done nothing to safeguard the State’s authority over anybody or anything.
Except the State’s authority over Jewish community members in Judea and Samaria–against whom Barak is ready to act at a moment’s notice–and (again) in open defiance of a Cabinet decision.
Why in the world is Ehud Barak in the government and why in the world is Ehud Barak in the government as Defense Minister?
The time has come for Benjamin Netanyahu to act–and act decisively to throw Ehud Barak out of the government and replace him with a Defense Minister who actually cares about Israel and Israeli citizens.
