Abbas’ Speech at the U.N.: An Arafatian Declaration of War

NUMBER OF TERRORIST MISSILES AND MORTARS SHOT AT SOUTHERN ISRAEL SINCE THE CEASEFIRE AGREED TO BY BENJAMIN NETANYAHU ON NOVEMBER 21, 2012:

34

UPDATE 10 am Israel time Friday:

Netanyahu meeting yesterday with representatives from the South: "I promise if just one more rocket is fired at the South, I will..."

Yesterday, PM Benjamin Netanyahu met with mayors of southern cities and the heads of southern regional councils at his residence in Jerusalem and issued this statement about the recent conflict with the Palestinians in Hamas Gaza:

“The IDF acted with strength, and as soon as the operation’s goals were achieved – we ended it. We will continue to closely monitor the situation to see to it that the quiet is maintained. If it is violated, the IDF is ready to respond strongly. I salute the residents of the south. Their resilience enabled us to achieve the goals that we set.”

What unadulterated hogwash.

*At 8:07 pm last night, sirens warning of incoming Palestinian terrorist rockets from Hamas in Gaza were sounded in the Be’er Tuvia region.

*At 11:30 pm last night, sirens warning of incoming Palestinian terrorist rockets from Hamas in Gaza were sounded in Netiv Asara and Erez.

*At 12:01 am this morning, sirens warning of incoming Palestinian terrorist rockets from Hamas in Gaza were sounded in Sha’ar Hanegev.

*At 6:25 am this morning, sirens warning of incoming Palestinian terrorist rockets from Hamas in Gaza were sounded in Sha’ar Hanegev.

What has been Netanyahu’s reaction? He hasn’t said a word.

What has been the IDF reaction? There has been no reaction whatsoever.

What has been the Israeli media reaction? There has not been one mention of these missile attacks whatsoever.

How quickly the situation has returned its pathetic “normal”. Once again, the citizens of southern Israel find themselves abandoned, alone, and in their bomb shelters.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Mahmoud Abbas at the United Nations yesterday . . . (oops!) That's Yasser Arafat in 1974.

It was a speech from out of the past. For those of us old enough to remember, Mahmoud Abbas could just as easily have been Yasser Arafat standing at the United Nations podium with a gun in his holster on November 13, 1974 (click here for the full text of Arafat’s speech).

In 1974, we had Arafat:

“In the past 10 years of our struggle, thousands of martyrs and twice as many wounded, maimed and imprisoned were offered in sacrifice, all in an effort to resist the imminent threat of liquidation, to regain our right to self-determination and our undisputed right to return to our homeland.”

Last night, we had Abbas:

“Palestine comes today to the United Nations General Assembly at a time when it is still tending to its wounds and still burying its beloved martyrs of children, women and men who have fallen victim to the latest Israeli aggression, still searching for remnants of life amid the ruins of homes destroyed by Israeli bombs on the Gaza Strip, wiping out entire families, their men, women and children murdered along with their dreams. . .”

In 1974, we heard Arafat:

“[The colonialist settlers] . . .  occupied . . . Palestine . . . uprooting a millions Arabs . . .they built their own settlements and colonies on the ruins of our farms and our groves . . . The roots of the Palestine question lie here.  It is the cause of people deprived of its homeland, dispersed and uprooted, and living mostly in exile and in refugee camps.”

Last night, we heard Abbas:

“The Palestinian people, who miraculously recovered from the ashes of Al-Nakba of 1948, which was intended to extinguish their being and to expel them in order to uproot and erase their presence, which was rooted in the depths of their land and depths of history. In those dark days, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were torn from their homes and displaced within and outside of their homeland, thrown from their beautiful, embracing, prosperous country to refugee camps in one of the most dreadful campaigns of ethnic cleansing and dispossession in modern history.”

Your humble servant could continue with lie after lie propounded by PLO chairmen Arafat and Abbas. Suffice it to say that following his false accusations of “occupation”, “aggression” and “ethnic cleansing”, Abbas followed up with ample servings of Israeli assaults, Israeli racism, Israeli attacks, Israeli apartheid, Israeli hatred, and Israeli incitement.

And what of Abbas the man of peace? What concessions are the Palestinians willing to make? Apparently none.

According to Abbas: “We will accept no less . . .”

1. “. . . than the independence of the State of Palestine, with Jerusalem as its capital” [not surprisingly, the English text of Abbas’ speech reads “East” Jerusalem as its capital]

2. “on all the Palestinian territory occupied in 1967, to live in peace and security alongside the State of Israel, and a solution for the refugee issue on the basis of resolution 194 (III), as per the operative part of the Arab Peace Initiative” [note that the so-called “Palestinian territory occupied in 1967” is in fact territory established by the armistice lines of 1949, and that the Arab interpretation of Resolution 194 would return 5 million so-called “Palestinian refugees” to Israel, thereby obliterating the Jewish nation].

In total, Abbas’ speech had nothing to do with peace. It was an Arafatian declaration of war–a war that will not end until the Palestinians retake Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and all of Israel.

The fact that the wide majority of so-called “diplomats” in the United Nations could applaud such rhetoric is pathetic. There are simply no peace gestures that Israel can make and no ends to which Israel can go that will make this Jewish nation palatable to the international community in the year 2012.

What is the lesson of last night and the action of the United Nations? There are few countries that Israel can depend on*, and ultimately, the survival of Israel rests solely in the hands of Israelis.

***Your humble servant vigorously applauds those countries who stood shoulder to shoulder with Israel yesterday: Nauru, Palau, Micronesia, the United States, Canada, Panama, the Marshall Islands, and the Czech Republic. There are a few countries left in this world with moral backbone.
