The Best Game In Town

TODAY’S BLOG:

Daily readers of this blog are aware that over the last year and a half, the security situation in Judea and Samara has continually deteriorated. Attacks on Israelis have become daily occurrences as have assaults on IDF, Border Guard, and police personnel.

At every step along the way, the PLO under the leadership of Mahmoud Abbas has done everything within its power to exacerbate the situation. The most recent cause celebre are the Palestinian terrorist-prisoner hunger strikers–and as of yesterday, the death in captivity (heart attack) of a Palestinian who was detained for security reasons.

When the PLO pr machine can generate such images as this (note the hunger striker banner)--what reason would they have to stop the protesters in Judea and Samaria?

The situation has gotten out of control first and foremost because the Israel government lacks the resolve to defend its own citizens. In particular, the IDF and police are so beset by political correctness and so afraid of international reaction that they have tied their own hands.

So it comes as no surprise to see the completely flummoxed Benjamin Netanyahu incredibly releasing $100 million in Palestinian tax monies this morning to the PLO “in the hope” that the PLO will, in turn, rein in the very “demonstrators” that it is inciting.

Of course there is no chance of the PLO reining in anyone.

The Palestinians are masters of the public relations game, and for the moment the “rock” and Molotov cocktail throwing rioters in Judea and Samaria are the best game in town.  Nothing could be better for the PLO (especially in its popularity contest with Hamas in Judea and Samaria) than for a few of the hunger striking terrorists to die.

Then all hell would really break loose–with the world turning to the PLO to bring “peace” to the area.  And the PLO would be all too happy to oblige–but not for the pittance that Netanyahu ponied up today.
