**Grad missiles fired from the Egyptian Sinai struck Eilat this morning. How many hit the city is still in question. Initially, it was reported that two hit–which was later revised to three–and which has now been re-revised to two.  In any case, at least one rocket hit near a building in the city while another one or two hit near the Jordanian border at Aqaba.

One question being asked by residents of Eilat is where was the Iron Dome? The red warning siren sounded in the city but Iron Dome battery failed to fire.

**As modern Israel’s 65th Independence Day came to end yesterday, two more Qassam rockets were fired out of Gaza at southern Israel. One hit on the Gaza side of the border; the other struck in an “empty area” of the Eshkol region.

We are now back to the daily firing of Palestinian rockets into southern Israel with absolute impunity. Not only is there no IDF acknowledgement of most of these launches, there is no IDF response when such launches take place. Last night’s absurd IDF answer to the terrorists in Gaza was shooting flares into the sky over northern Gaza.

Can you believe this? The terrorists fire rockets to try to kill Israeli children, women, and men, and we shoot flares into the sky.

**An Israeli Arab member of the Knesset who is the head of the Balad political party commented yesterday that Israel’s independence celebrations were “dancing on the blood of the Palestinians.”

Jamal Zahalka added these “warm” remarks: “We, as Palestinians inside, by virtue of our position, we see mirrors everywhere in celebration of Israel’s Independence Day, built on the ruins of our people. This heightens the sense of dread catastrophe of our people, because their Independence Day is our Nakba Day.”

The extraordinary way in which the Palestinians yearn to be victims has always been darkly amusing to your humble servant. If they had half as much interest in improving their situation as delighting in their so-called “Nakba”, the Palestinians would have had a country of their own 65 years ago.

Of course, that is precisely the problem. The Palestinians want a country of their own in the place of Israel. And that is why they will never have “a country of their own”.

**Miri Regev, one of the most Zionist members of Likud Beiteinu, was elected this morning as Chairman of the Knesset Internal Affairs and Environment Committee. She immediately announced that the Committee’s first order of business is to tour the Temple Mount.

Regev specifically declared that she wants to review the prayer arrangements that the Islamic Wakf and its collaborators in the Jerusalem Police have put in place for Muslims and Jews–particularly the extreme restrictions on Jews. More than this, she wants a first-hand analysis of the illegal digging that the Wakf has been doing on the Mount as it attempts to destroy all vestiges of Jewish history at Judaism’s holiest place.

Your humble servant hopes that Regev will succeed in protecting Jewish rights where others have failed.

A story from yesterday illustrates how ridiculous the situation has become. A group of orthodox Zionist Jews came from Kiryat Arba to mark Israel Independence Day on the Temple Mount.  These religious Jews were immediately separated from other tourists by the Jerusalem  Police.

They were taken to a special room where they were thoroughly checked and patted down. What weapons were the police looking for? As one policeman explained: “We must make sure that you are not hiding an Israeli flag.”

By the way, when the Kiryat Arba Jews finally were released to ascend the Temple Mount,  they were met by Palestinians on top shouting “Allahu Akbar” at them . . . and waving a Palestinian flag.

Jews cannot carry an Israeli flag onto the Temple Mount, but here is what met Jewish worshipers on top of the Temple Mount yesterday.
