UPDATES 9 am Israel time, Saturday, July 5 2014:
**Another 24 hours and another 30+ Hamas-PLO missiles and mortars have struck southern Israel. The details are below in Today’s Blog.
Remember the israelstreet blog yesterday in which we described how the 24 hour “ultimatum” to Hamas to stop firing missiles had morphed into a 48 hour ultimatum, and was likely to morph into a much longer one? The government of Benjamin Netanyahu, which has become a laughingstock here in southern Israel, has just extended the ultimatum deadline again–this time apparently for an indefinite period.
**There is no progress in finding the murderers of the three Israeli teenagers. One Israeli security official speaking yesterday said that all should be on the highest alert because it is entirely possible that they are loose in Judea and Samaria and may kill again.
**Widespread rioting continues in the eastern neighborhoods of Jerusalem. The rioters are being egged on by incendiary statements from Israeli left wing politicians decrying the “fanatic right wing”, inflammatory articles in the PLO-Hamas Arab press mentioning the old anti-semitic fraud of Jews using the blood of children to make matza, and continuing interviews with Muhammad Khedair’s uncle Hussein who delights in comparing Israelis to Nazis.
The rioters have been focused on destroying the infrastructure of the Shuafat neighborhood. The Jerusalem light rail system has been wrecked with stations destroyed and tracks pulled up. Last night, rioters with metal saws focused on cutting down light poles.
Meanwhile Muhammed Khedair was buried yesterday, but the police seem no closer to finding out the motivation of his barbaric murderer or murderers.
There are at least three videos of the alleged kidnapping moment now floating around, none of which support the uncle’s version of what happened, but all of which show Khedair getting into a car with an unseen man or men.
Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu speaking at the Negev Conference in Sderot on March 18th of this year–less than 4 months ago:
“. . . there is a quiet here that has not been felt in a decade . . . there will not be a drizzle of rocket fire. Every rocket will be responded to immediately and with force.”
Israel Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon speaking in southern Israel at a graduation ceremony for new officers on June 25th–less than 2 weeks ago:
” . . . terrorist elements in the Gaza Strip test our patience with a drizzle of rocket fire at southern communities – a drizzle we will not tolerate.”
What can one say about utterly failed leaders who make annual pilgrimages to southern Israel to talk about their resolve and fortitude in the face of Hamas terrorists, and then shrink back into their holes in Jerusalem when the missiles start raining down on us?
What can one say about utterly failed leaders who actually have the temerity to develop a new “no response” response to Hamas terrorist missile fire which leaves one million people in the south–especially those on the Gaza border–totally exposed and always forced to be within running distance of a bomb shelter?
Following two days of intense missile fire directed at the men, women, and children of southern Israel, and two days of virtually no IDF response, this is what has happened here in the last 24 hours:
8:39 am Saturday–21 minutes ago: Sirens for incoming missiles from Palestinian terrorists in Gaza for Nir Yitzik and the communities of the Eshkol Region.
3:09 am Saturday: Sirens for incoming missiles from Palestinian terrorists in Gaza for Sha’ar Hanegev.

5:23 pm Friday: Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fire missiles at Eshkol Region of southern Israel.
4:05 pm Friday: Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fire two mortar rounds at the Kerem Shalom Crossing in southern Israel.
3:56 pm Friday: Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fire 4 missiles at Ofakim and Eshkol Region. Two intercepted by Iron Dome, and two hit “open spaces”.
3:42 pm Friday: Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fire missiles at Eshkol Region of southern Israel. No warning alarms sound in advance.
11:48 am Friday: Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fire missiles at Eshkol Region of southern Israel.
5:36 am Friday: 5 missiles fired by Palestinian terrorists. One shot down by Iron Dome; others hit “open spaces.”
Here is a suggestion for you dear reader. If you want to know what it is like to live in southern Israel, download the free “Tsava Adom” (red siren) app on your cellphone. Every time the alarm goes off warning you of an incoming Palestinian terrorist missile, run (you only have 15 seconds) to a room in your residence. Do this for a 24 hour period.
And, as you run, think about the fact that you are totally at the mercy of the terrorists with no government there to protect you. And that many times, the alarm does not go off at all.
