Do Something This Weekend To Help Israel’s Disabled Veterans

94 Days Until the Election

UPDATES 7 pm Israel time, Friday, December 12 2014:

—>Security updates:

*Five members of a family from Beitar Illit and two other Israelis were wounded at 1:35 pm today in an acid attack near the tunnels checkpoint on Route 60. A father, three daughters, and a niece were riding in a car when the father pulled off the road to pick up a hitchhiker. As the hitchhiker started to enter the car, Palestinian terrorist Jamal Abu Riyadh of Nahlin ran toward the car and began throwing acid on the family and the hitchhiker.

At this point, the father exited the car and rushed toward Riyadh who, in turn, charged the father and attempted to stab him with a screwdriver. Another passerby in a car saw what was happening, stopped his car, and shot the Riyadh in the face.

*At 5:52 pm (a little more than an hour ago), Hamas terrorists in Gaza “test-fired” another missile into the Mediterranean. Meanwhile more than 100 Palestinians in Gaza are currently rioting and burning tires on the Gaza side of the border fence near Kibbutz Nahal Oz.

*Palestinian riots took place this afternoon in Qalandiya, Shechem, and Bethlehem. The worst riot was in Hebron where an Israeli soldier was wounded when hit in the head by a “rock.”

—>Election updates:

*Naftali Bennett of Beit Yehudi (Jewish Home) published his plan for Middle East peace yesterday:

1. Be much stronger than our enemies.

2. Stop handing over Israeli terroritory to the enemy.

3. Continue building in the Jewish state until our enemies give up the idea of destroying us.

*Wildly different polls are being published by the hour. For example, three of the polls give the new Herzog-Livni party 26, 24, and 18 seats respectively.

*Interestingly, what Herzog-Livni surge there is seems be coming at the expense of two other parties on the “left”,  Yair Lapid’s party Yesh Atid and Meretz.

*A new party on the right, “Jewish Power”,  is in the process of forming under the aegis of Michael Ben-Ari, Baruch Marzel, and Itamar Ben-Lord. The hope is that Jewish Power will become an amalgamation of other parties on the right.

*The Sephardic Orthodox party, Shas, is on the verge of splitting into two parts because of infighting between two of its leaders, Aryeh Deri and Eli Yishai.

—>We should never be surprised at anything that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says any more. However, what he said this week at the Saban Forum was so egregious that it deserves inclusion in israelstreet today.

In an incredible comparison, Kerry said: “We were shocked at the brutal murders in the synagogue in Har Nof, but the Palestinians have suffered too by a price tag attack against a mosque in Ramallah.”

This Israeli disabled veteran is climbing mountains with the help of Etgarim–an organization founded by Israeli disabled veterans (see link below).

When you are thinking about what you can do for Israel this weekend, think about making a donation to the IDF Disabled Veterans Organization.

This past Tuesday, this organization published the following figures:

*There are currently 49,552 disabled IDF veterans in Israel. These include Jews, Druze, Circassians, Bedouins, and Christians.

*46,406 (94%) of these are men and 3,146 (6%) are women.

*8,707 of the disabled have a disability greater than 50%–mostly connected with an inability to walk independently.

* The disabled range in age from 19 to 102 years old.

*Around 9000 soldiers have been disabled in fighting between 2002 and 2014–of this number about 500 were added in the recent fighting with Hamas this summer.

By the way, have you heard anything about these 500 soldiers? There has been no word of them in the leftist Israeli media nor, of course, in the international media.
