UPDATES 9 am Israel time:

–>Palestinian terrorist attacks followed the usual Friday pattern (see Today’s Blog below).

Yesterday, the main points of attack were the Husan Junction, Hebron Hills, the Tunnels Checkpoint, Bilin, Kafr Qaddum, and Susiya.

–>Intense Israeli protests in support of the “Hevron soldier” continued.

More than 1,000 protesters outside the detention hearing at Castina yesterday (picture 0404).

Yesterday saw more developments in the Hevron soldier case. As you already know from yesterday’s blog, the charge against the soldier has been reduced from “murder” to “manslaughter.” As we left you on Thursday, the military prosecution was going to appeal the decision of the court to release the soldier to his own recognizance on a military base.

Late yesterday afternoon, the prosecution lost its appeal, and the presiding judge, Lt.-Col. Ronen Shor, ordered that the soldier immediately be taken to the military base near Kibbutz Nahshonim. He was also immediately freed upon arrival from his handcuffs–and the judge ordered that he could receive family visitors. To repeat: he is free within the confines of the base, but because he is confined to the base, he is considered “under house arrest.”

This does not mean that he is out of danger from being prosecuted. Far from it.  The ruthlessness of the military prosecutor has been an unseemly thing to behold, and the war against the soldier being waged in the left wing Israeli media has been nauseating.

Your humble servant watched one news program on Israel Channel 2 last night from 7:30-8:00 pm. A panel of six reporters and “pundits” was discussing the Hevron case with the newswoman anchor facilitating the discussion. Of course, the discussion focused on the alleged “criminality of the soldier”. During the course of the 30 minutes, Channel 2 played the B’Tselem video of the soldier shooting the terrorist 22 times.

And never once played either of the other two videos that support the soldier.

 TODAY’S BLOG:

The usual Friday pattern here in Israel is for Palestinians to attend a local mosque for Friday noon prayers, listen to their favorite imam viciously excoriate Israel, walk outside to where their Israeli leftist and international “human rights” friends are waiting, and then go and attack the closest Israeli security forces they can find with “rocks”, Molotovs, and whatever else they can throw.

Let’s take yesterday’s violence at Bi’lin.

Here was the usual cast of terrorists setting out from the mosque:

It was a warm Spring day yesterday without a cloud in the sky. This looks like a happy-go-lucky crowd on their way to a picnic (photo: Maan).

Note from left to right in the first line:

*an international, white-haired “human rights activist” carrying a black flag in his left hand

*a Palestinian cameraman with a large camera in his right hand

*the Palestinian ringleader carrying the Palestinian flag (and shouting something)

*an international, blonde-haired “human rights activist” wearing jeans (definitely not an Arab woman), and a keffiyeh

*another Palestinian media person wearing what looks like a miner’s helmet (actually an audio recording instrument) on his head

*another international “human rights activist” with his organic straw hat and keffiyeh

Note how everyone in the front row is “older”–this is the “face” that the Palestinians present to the world. What you cannot see are all of the people in the back (but notice how in the second row one man is masked and another man appears to be putting one on).

After this happy, marching display, the group proceeded to an Israeli security checkpoint. Once there, the Palestinians and their friends tried to break through the checkpoint and created a violent confrontation. We don’t have a picture from yesterday’s violence, but here’s a recent one from Bi’lin:

Focus your attention on the international “human rights activist” wearing the brown hat in the foreground. Note how she is screaming at the soldier; note how she has grabbed the soldier’s shirt; note how she has something in her right hand and her arm is cocked in a throwing position.

Focus your attention on the soldier she has grabbed. Note how he is not holding his gun (none of the soldiers have their guns raised); note how his right hand is raised in a “stop” gesture; note the calmness on his face juxtaposed with the screaming person he is confronted with.

And generally focus on the Palestinian cameras filming the incident that the Palestinians and friends have created and provoked.

Finally, of course, every Friday degenerates into full-blown attacks on our soldiers. Here’s another recent picture from Bi’lin.
