UPDATES 5:00 pm Israel time:

…Palestinian terrorism so far today…

An Israeli woman and her children were firebombed (2:13 pm) while she was driving her car on Route 60 near Hawara. The driver managed to make it to safety where she and the children were treated by MADA.

A stabbing was thwarted at the Zeitem Checkpoint at 1:22 pm. A female Palestinian terrorist armed with a knife was captured.

“Rock” attacks occurred in the morning on the road between Hebron and Kiryat Arba as well as the entrances and exits of the tunnels leading in and out of Jerusalem.

…Palestinian terrorism yesterday…

Arson, “rock”, and Molotov assaults took place throughout the day at such places as Nokdim, Hares, Beit Jala, Gush Etzion, Beit Sahur, Kiryat Arba, and throughout eastern Jerusalem.

…The Women of the Wall inflame the Kotel, again…

The self-named Women of the Wall expressly violated today a recent ruling by Israel’s Attorney General which was supposed to prohibit them from performing their “Priestesses of the Wall” blessing.

The women's wearing of Tallits (prayer shawls) is deeply offensive to the orthodox.

The women’s wearing of Tallits (prayer shawls) is deeply offensive to the orthodox.

The Women carried out the blessing in their tallits and with full knowledge of the Jerusalem Police who stood by and watched. Afterward, an orthodox rabbi who heads one of the largest women’s seminaries in Jerusalem threatened that he would flood the Kotel Plaza with his students the next time the Women attempt to hold such a blessing.

…In the neighborhood: the Rafah Crossing opens…

The Rafah Crossing from Gaza into Egypt opened today in both directions for the first time since February.

This comes a day after 8 Egyptian security personnel were killed in a Cairo suburb by IS-affiliated terrorists.

…In the neighborhood, Khan Tuman updates…

The death toll among Iranian Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah fighters continues to amount. As reported several days ago on israelstreet, Syrian rebel forces have reversed some previous Assad government gains in the Khan Tuman area near Aleppo.

This morning found Iran accusing Turkey of being responsible for the deaths of as many as 50 Iranian soldiers because it opened a secret 2 km long corridor which allowed rebel troops to pass through and ambush Iranian and Hezbollah forces.

Part of the "secret corridor."

Part of the “secret corridor.”

Speaking of Iran, it announced yesterday that it had successfully test-fired a new ballistic missile with a range of 2000 kilometers. The Iranians bragged that it has an accuracy to within 8 meters of its target.

TODAY’S BLOG:

An exhausted Azariah in court today.

An exhausted Azariah in court today.

The trial of Elor Azariah began today in a military courtroom in Jaffa. As you remember, Azariah is being tried for manslaughter for having killed a wounded Palestinian terrorist who had stabbed an Israeli soldier in Hevron.

Immediately after the trial began and the indictment was read,  the president of the panel of trial judges, Col. Maya Heller, ordered both sides to try to reach a mediated agreement in advance of the appearance of evidence and witnesses–and gave them one week to try to work out a deal.

However, Azariah is being prosecuted by a military prosecutor’s office hell-bent on convicting him. In fact,  if you can believe this, the military prosecutor’s office has hired a noted private lawyer to assist in the prosecution. After all, the “reputation” of “Defense Minister” Ya’alon who constantly preaches about the guilt of Azariah to anyone who will listen is at stake.

How all of this will turn out is anyone’s guess.

At the proceedings today, Judge Heller was particularly harsh in her criticism of the prosecution and commented that based on what she has seen (which is everything), the evidence against the soldier is “weak.”
