Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Numerous soldiers wounded, numerous civilians traumatized: such has been the impact of Palestinian terrorism over the last day.

For example, five soldiers were wounded in Qalandiya when terrorists threw “rocks”, Molotovs, and other projectiles at security forces. Similar attacks took place in Shechem, A-Ram, Kiryat Arba, Hawara, Nili, Bani Na’im, Burj-al-Arab, Beit El, and Tekoa.

On the civilian side, Israelis were traumatized by attacks beside Nebi Elias, on Road 79, at Hizma, Beit Einun, Karni Shomron, and at Ofer.

Meanwhile, a Palestinian terrorist attempted to stab an IDF soldier at a checkpoint near Tulkarm. No Israelis were wounded, and the terrorist was neutralized.

Please note that the information above is gleaned from Israeli civilians on the ground as reported at rotter.net and other civilian reportage of attacks reported at kolhayehudi.co.il.

Another dangerous incident in Lebanon . . .

It has been revealed that an Israeli drone has been brought down over Lebanon. Notice that your humble servant says “brought down.” Hezbollah has always claimed that it has the ability to hack into IAF computers both to bring Israeli drones down and to infiltrate Israeli airspace with its own drones.

This is yet another example of how Hezbollah evidently has that power.

The Murder of Erez Levi

Policeman Erez Levi was murdered last night when he was rammed by vehicle driven by a Bedouin. At the time, the police were in the process of razing illegal buildings in the Bedouin settlement of Umm Al-Hiran in the southern Negev.

Sgt. Major Levi was married with two small children.

The international media has been quick to facilely categorize Levi’s murder as “a Bedouin defending Bedouin homes against illegal demolitions.”

This ignores the fact that the terrorist was a teacher at the same school at which other teachers have been arrested because of their affiliation with Islamic State (ISIS). A search if the terrorist’s home found ISIS materials. It also ignores the fact that the Bedouins have been egged on (aka incited) to protest by Israeli Arab legislators in the Knesset, one of whom was wounded last night when he was hit in the head by a Bedouin rock-thrower.

It also ignores the fact that the Israeli government and Supreme Court have helped in creating the current mess of illegal Bedouin homes and settlements because for years they have never taken concrete actions to stop the illegal sprawl that now afflicts the Negev Desert all the way from Be’ersheva to Mitzpe Ramon. All anyone has to do is drive the highway between the two cities to see the incredible surge in illegal homes.

The bottom line today is a complex one. First, the attack was carried out by a terrorist who was undoubtedly inspired by ISIS. Second, the attack was incited by Israeli-Arab legislators. Third, the attack is an outgrowth of a lack of governmental policy regarding Bedouin illegal housing.

Finally, I would like to add that the Bedouins should not be lumped in with the Palestinians. There are many Bedouins who are incredibly loyal to the state of Israel and who have served honorably with the IDF.

I remember several years ago sitting in the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem just inside the Chain Gate. Beside my wife and I was a large man with his son. Unlike me, they had just been able to enter the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aksa Mosque. In the ensuing conversation, he asked where we were from, and we told him Ashdod. Whereupon he told us that we were in the same boat.

He said that just like his house in the Negev was under fire from Palestinian Hamas terrorists in Gaza so was ours. For the next few minutes, he told us about his service as a scout in the IDF, and the various engagements he had been involved in. He said that he was passing his loyalty toward Israel to his son.

The Bedouin issue is a very complicated one and needs to be resolved to everyone’s ability as much as possible.

But none of this changes the fact that an Israeli policeman was murdered by a terrorist last night.
