The Utter Slime of Israeli Journalistic and Police “Investigations”

But he’s not likely to get it anytime soon. Some Congressional leaders came forward yesterday to say they would fight the State Department over any attempt to seek the funds.

The value of the dollar drops like a rock . . .

Following the Bank of Israel’s decision to stop buying foreign currency two days ago, the value of the dollar has dropped from 3.63 shekels per dollar to 3.50 shekels per dollar.

Who knows how much lower it will fall when trading resumes tomorrow morning?

Generally speaking, the stronger shekel hurts Israel exports with all the ramifications that entails.

How much does it cost to rent an apartment in Israel?

Of course it depends on where you live, how large the apartment is, the amenities offered by the apartment building, and other factors. But here is the representative rent in a few of the largest cities, along with the percentage increase in rent in the last 3.5 years.

For a three bedroom apartment:

Ashdod: 3,674  shekels ($1049):  16% increase

Rishon: 4,094 shekels ($1169):  9% increase

Tel Aviv: 5,754 shekels ($1644): 11% increase

Jerusalem: 4,333 shekels ($1238): 8% increase

For a five bedroom apartment:

Ashdod: 5,488 shekels ($1568):  21% increase

Rishon: 5,841 shekels ($1668):  12% increase

Tel Aviv: 8,886 shekels ($2538): 20% increase

Jerusalem: 6,431 shekels ($1837): 3% increase

Obviously the highest rents are in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, whereas the highest percentage increase is in Ashdod. Why are the increases “so small” in Jerusalem? Because of the flight of secular citizens from the city and the influx of the orthodox who typically have less money to pay.

The Utter Slime of Israeli Journalistic and Police “Investigations”

In a rather astonishing turn of events yesterday, the Attorney General revealed what allegations against Sara Netanyahu have been dropped.

After years of being dragged through the mud by the Israel media and leaks from the Israeli Police, Netanyahu at least has some vindication in the fact that there is only one remaining charge against her.

What have been dropped?

*The “recycled bottles affair”: this was the absurd charge that continued for years that Netanyahu had somehow pocketed some 4000 shekels in recycled bottle money.

*The “garden furniture affair”: this was the absurd charge that garden furniture that had been purchased for the official residence in Jerusalem had been taken to the Netanyahu’s private home in Caesarea.

*The “nurse affair”: this was the absurd charge that Sara Netanyahu had somehow used government money to pay for the nurse who stayed with her dying father in the Netanyahu official residence.

*The “cup of tea” affair: this was the absurd charge that cups of tea that the nurse made for Sara’s dying father were made from tea purchased through government funds allocated for the household.

*The “electrician affair”: this was the absurd charge that Netanyahu had ordered an electrician to come to the house on Yom Kippur to fix an electrical problem and had paid for it with government funds.

*The “waiters affair”: this was the absurd charge that waiters for official government dinners at the official residence were overpaid by Netanyahu.

And on and on and on, “the spending inflation affair”, etc.

When your humble servant thinks about the years of wasted fake news on Israeli television about each of the above, and the wasted manhours and millions of shekels spent by the Israeli Police, he just has to shake his head. The Israeli news, led by Channel 10’s Raviv Drucker, is the sorriest excuse for journalism on the planet. The Police anti-fraud unit, Lahav 433, should be disbanded.

So what is left. What is the charge that Mandleblit is likely to indict Sara Netanyahu on?

It’s still all about food.

Specifically, some 395,000 shekels worth of food that was ordered by the household over the course of two or three years for official dinners. The allegation is that the food was ordered, and then the ordering was camouflaged in multiple unrelated invoices.

The allegation is totally based on claims made by the Netanyahu residence House Manager Mani Naftali during the years in question.

Netanyahu’s lawyers were all over this accusation last night on television and at multiple news conferences yesterday. According to them, there is no proof whatsoever that Sara Netanyahu ordered (or over-ordered) the food. According to them, every order was made by the residence manager Mani Naftali.

And according to them, Naftali himself has stated in a deposition that he was often scolded by Sara for the excessive amount of food he ordered. What’s more, the lawyers declared, no one knows what happened to the food. Unused food just disappeared.

Finally, the lawyers handed the press food receipts for the years before, the years of, and the years after those in which Naftali was manager. During the years Naftali was in charge of food, food expenditures quintupled.

Quintupled.

The irony of the situation is that the Attorney General’s Office has given Naftali immunity from prosecution in return for testifying against Sara and covering his own hind end.

Can you believe it?

Where will this go from here? Eventually, it will go to court. But any indictment against Sara Netanyahu must be viewed with utter suspicion. We are entering the final phase of what has to be one of the slimiest episodes in Israeli journalistic and police history.
