TODAY’S BLOG:

All Hell Breaks Loose On The Gaza Border

**UPDATES ALL DAY**

FINAL UPDATE TODAY 9:00 PM

Missiles and mortars are continuing to strike southern Israel even as your humble servant writes this sentence. The area being hit right now is Yad Mordechai, just south of Ashkelon. Sitting here in Ashdod, we just heard four large booms in the vicinity of the Iron Dome battery about 2 km south of us.

Since our last update at 7:00 pm, incoming missile alarms have sounded at 7:12, 7:57,  8:18, and 8:58.

At the moment, israelstreet counts 154 missiles and mortars having struck Israel in the last 18 hours. Many other missiles and mortars have not been reported at all because they hit outside of populated areas. What were the four booms we just heard? Who knows–there was no report that anything exploded.

As we predicted would happen, the “official” the IDF total has gradually increased with “more than 100 missiles” and more than 20 intercepted by the Iron Dome now being announced.

As usual, international entities led by Egypt are pushing for a ceasefire. Islamic Jihad says that they agreed to one at 8 pm; Hamas says it wants a seaport in Cyprus with no Israeli supervision; Israel says that we want a stop to the Molotov kites, balloons, missiles, and mortars.

We’ll see what the night brings.

UPDATE 7:00 PM

Three wounded in Sderot when missile strikes a home there: male aged 52 with chest wounds, female aged 20 with wounds to arms and legs, 17 year-old-girl with facial wounds. All three evacuated to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon.

Hamas expands the range of missile fire; alarms heard in Ashkelon for the first time.

Incoming missile alarms 6:55, 6:44, 6:24, 6:18, and 6:14 pm.

UPDATE 6:00 PM

Palestinian terrorists launched more missiles and mortars into southern Israel in the last two hours: at 4:04, 4:27, 4:30, 4:45, 4:55, 5:05, and 5:53 pm.

The IDF spokesman now says that between 6 am and 3:00 pm, there were “about” 60 missiles and mortars fired into southern Israel of which “about” 10 were intercepted. As we all know, this number is under-reported by the IDF.

This means that the IDF Spokesman’s reports notwithstanding, some 132 missiles and mortars have exploded in southern Israel since last night at 1:00 am.

Our wonderful so-called political-security cabinet will meet tomorrow morning to discuss the situation. Can you believe this? Southern Israel is being pulverized and our lousy cabinet cannot meet until tomorrow.

By the way, Palestinian terrorists also lit 11 fires in southern Israel today with incendiary devices attached to kites and balloons.

UPDATE AT 4:00 PM

Between 3:00-3:45 pm, the residents of southern Israel heard incoming missile alarms at:

3:03, 3:04, 3:05, 3:14, 3:15, 3:16, 3:17, 3:18, 3:19, 3:20, 3:21, 3:26, 3:27, 3:28, 3:29, 3:30, 3:31, 3:32, 3:33, 3:34, 3:35, 3:36, 3:37, 3:40, and 3:42.

25 alarms in 45 minutes. You do the math.

Isn’t it amazing that 200,000 thousand Israelis have been living in their bomb shelters with nonstop alarms going off, and not one single launcher in Gaza has been hit by the IDF?

Not one launcher, and not one terrorist. Hamas and Islamic Jihad are firing at will at our people.

What has happened to our IDF?

It is a situation beyond pathetic.

UPDATE AT 3:00 PM

In the three and a half hours since 11:30 am, there have numerous barrages of missiles and mortars fired by Palestinian terrorists into southern Israel: at 1:14 pm, 1:20 pm, 1:36 pm, 1:46 pm, 1:53 pm, 1:59 pm, 2:03 pm, 2:06 pm, 2:09 pm, 2:15 pm, 2:18 pm, 2:26 pm, 2:33 pm, 2:35 pm, 2:43 pm, 2:53-2:58 pm.

Homes and cars have been hit, but information coming out of the area is scarce.  Here is one picture of a car in Sderot that was hit by a piece of a missile that was intercepted:

Here is a video of an Iron Dome intercept a few minutes ago (note the missile strike at the beginning and then the intercept right at the end of the 51 second video).

UPDATE AT 11:30 AM

There has been no missile or mortar fire since 6:30 am. Hamas is claiming that it has forced the IDF to halt attacks.

In the meantime, the Homefront Command has issued the following directives for people in the south, especially in the coastal areas:

1. Zikim Beach in the Chof Ashkelon region is closed to the public.
2. Any gathering in the area surrounding Gaza (0-7 km) will be limited in an area open to 100 people and a closed area for 500 people.

UPDATE AT 8:30 AM

As usual, the IDF spokesman is gradually increasing its count of the number of missiles that have exploded in Israel since 1:36 am this morning. The IDF now says that 31 missiles were fired instead of the 17 it reported earlier. Israelstreet prefers to rely on reports of citizens on the ground which now total 52 missiles and 20 mortars–a number that will likely increase as the hours wear on and more missile and mortar impact locations are discovered.

The IDF also has updated its response to state that a second “offensive” tunnel has been hit–this time in the Beit Hanoun area of northern Gaza. Your humble servant cannot understand why every tunnel in Gaza is not hit. What are we waiting for?

UPDATE AT 6:30 AM

It has been a sleepless night here in Ashdod with IAF jets taking off over our house all night long and the booming of artillery to the south of our position. Today’s blog will cover the ongoing situation on the Gaza border.

The current round of attacks began yesterday evening when an IDF officer was “seriously” wounded by a grenade thrown at him during a violent disturbance along the security fence.

This was followed by an IDF attack on northern Gaza at 1:20 am.

This was followed by incoming missile alarms at:

1:36-1:39 am for Zones 220, 230, 231

2:03 am for all Zones along the Gaza Border

2:12 am for Zones 220, 221, 230, 231, 237

2:20 am for Zones 218, 247, 250

2:37-2:39 am for all Zones along the Gaza Border

2:44 am for all Zones along the Gaza Border

2:53 am for all Zones along the Gaza Border

3:00 am for all Zones along the Gaza Border

3:09-3:13 am for all Zones along the Gaza Border

3:29-3:31 am for all Zones along the Gaza Border

At this point, residents on the ground reported more than 40 missiles and 20 mortars had been fired at southern Israel–reportedly one every 9 minutes.

3:44 am for Zones 223,224

5:18 am for Zones 219, 220, 221

At 5:50 am the IDF spokesman claimed that only 17 missiles had been fired at southern Israel throughout the night and that 5 of them had been intercepted by Iron Dome batteries. In response, the IDF claimed the usual–that it had hit Hamas training camps (read: empty sand dunes) and Hamas infrastructure (read: empty buildings), and a tunnel.

6:04 am for all Zones along the Gaza Border

6:15 am for Zones 220, 221, and 252

Here is a map of the latest attack at 6:15 am:

All centered around Sderot.

All centered around Sderot.

As of this moment, it is estimated that between 60-100 missiles and mortars have exploded in southern Israel.
