The Utter Failure of PM Netanyahu and the IDF

The Most Accurate Quotes Yesterday Following the Government’s Ignominious Decision To Have A Ceasefire with Hamas and Islamic Jihad:

“The decision to go to a cease-fire is delusional and cowardly. Tomorrow there will be kites again and fires again–and what then? Let me guess: nothing.

Unfortunately, Hamas is dictating the tone, and not the government, which instead of sending the terrorists to the tunnels and restoring deterrence, is sending our own citizens to their bomb shelters.

Rightly, the residents of the South feel cheated!”

Oren Hazan, Likud MK in the Knesset

“The next time Netanyahu tells us that “everything is good,” ask who? The fields are burned down and the children in their bedrooms are not safe. My heart is with the residents of the South on this day, and I salute their quiet resoluteness.”

Yair Lapid, Knesset member and head of the Yesh Atid Party

TODAY’S BLOG:

The Utter Failure of PM Netanyahu and the IDF

Where was Bibi yesterday?

While alarms were going off at the rate of one per minute and missiles and mortars were exploding all around, our Prime Minister was nowhere to be seen.

Instead, he drafted a ridiculous page of talking points which he distributed to all the members of his so-called security cabinet.

Its four major points:

1.   “Hamas pays a heavy price and that this is the most extensive IDF attack since the war in 2014.”

[What a sick joke. Hamas did not lose a single fighter, did not lose any asset of value, and did not agree to stop firing anything–it was still firing at 1:33 am this morning].

2. “We will continue to act with determination to protect our citizens.”

[What a sick joke. For over one hundred days, the government has done little to stop the terrorist fires that have scorched the South and destroyed the livelihood of our citizens–now it cannot even keep them out of bomb shelters].

3. “Our policy is clear – anyone who tries to harm us pays a heavy price immediately.”

[What a sick joke. Government policy is to not strike at the heart of Hamas, wait for Egypt to intervene, and let Hamas dictate the terms of a ceasefire to us.]

4. “The citizens of the South are bravely fighting terror attacks – and we are determined to restore security to the region.”

[What a sick joke that “we are determined to restore security to the region.” Three wars in nine years with another ten mini-wars in between with more than 10,000 missiles fired at the citizens of the South–there is no security].

How Netanyahu or any of our Cabinet ministers could go out and repeat any of these talking points with a straight face is beyond comprehension.

Speaking of sick jokes, how about the IDF?

To begin with, the IDF Spokesman unashamedly posted this graph late last night:

The caption read: "This was our day. How was yours?"

The caption read: “This was our day. How was yours?”

It is amazing to your humble servant that the IDF cannot see that this graph is a scathing indictment of the IDF. It shows in bold numbers the utter impotence the IDF displayed in this latest mini-war in stopping the attacks and protecting our citizens.

It also showed how the IDF deliberately undercounted all day how many missiles and mortars were being launched, something it always does during these mini-wars–only to update us as to what really happened when the fighting is over.

And, oh by the way, it was not the “IDF’s day”, it was the day of the citizens of the South–the ones who had to suffer through the 200 missiles and mortars and the 173 red alert sirens.

If this was was not enough, the IDF spokesman put out this summary of the day’s activities [emphasis mine] late last night:

During the day, the IDF attacked large-scale targets in the Gaza Strip, including a high-rise building in the Shati refugee camp and a broad attack on the headquarters of the Hamas battalion in Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip.

The high-rise building in the Shati refugee camp served as the “Palestinian National Library”, a large abandoned building adjacent to Nasser Street, the main street in the south of the Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City . . .

Instead, the large building has been used as a training facility for Hamas battalions for fighting in built-up areas, taking control of structures, and, in recent times, as a device for survival exercises in the tunnels . . .

So now the IDF is proud of destroying abandoned buildings which, according to the IDF, have been used by Hamas battalions practicing urban warfare?

A large abandoned building.

And then the IDF spokesman released this eight second video that purports to show the only attack the IDF made on any missile launcher in Gaza yesterday–the launch that took place at 12:10 am this morning.  The only problem? There is no launcher to be seen in the video–just the sight of something being blown up.

All in all, it was a disastrous performance by the IDF General Command. If we have said it once we have said it a hundred times: if the IDF cannot stop hundreds of missiles and mortars from being fired from Gaza, what is going to happen when Hezbollah fires tens of thousands of missiles at Israel from Lebanon?

It will be a complete and total disaster.

Finally, dear reader, you will recall how many times your humble servant has written that the people in the communities are nothing but missile fodder as far as our government and the IDF are concerned.

That was confirmed in spades yesterday when a senior IDF official said that Israel would respond “in a tougher manner if Hamas increased their distance of rocket fire to over 10 km.” In other words, Hamas has a green light to destroy the lives of the people in the communities around Gaza–by firing missiles, mortars, and incendiary kites and balloons.

How do you think the people in the South–within the 10 km range of the terrorists in Gaza–feel this morning?

Completely abandoned by Netanyahu and the IDF.
