The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 12 hours on the Gaza border . . .

Every day sees unremitting violence on the Gaza Border. Normally, Fridays are worse than other days, and today has been no exception.

As estimated 10,000 Palestinian Gazans have attacked the border fence with the usual array of explosive devices; they have been repelled by our soldiers. According to Palestinian reports, 109 terrorists have been wounded so far.

At the same time dozens of explosive balloons have been launched into southern Israel with fires started at such places as Mervahim. In other places, Israelis were lucky about where the balloon clusters landed:

This cluster of explosive balloons landed in a tree on a main street in Netivot this afternoon.

Another cluster landed in an open agricultural field in the Eshkol region where nothing could catch fire:

TODAY’S BLOG:

“Yes, we are racists.”

Karnei Shomron, located in the heart of Samaria.

Karnei Shomron, located in the heart of Samaria.

Karnei Shomron is a Jewish community whose name appears often on israelstreet. Unfortunately, it appears because Road 55 which basically runs from Kfar Sava in the west to Shechem (Nablus) in the east is the location of many “rock” and Molotov attacks.

Many people who live in Karnei Shomron actually work in Petah Tikva, Tel Aviv, and in Kfar Sava, but on most days trying to get to and from their homes is like navigating through a terrorist minefield.

Over the years, Karnei Shomron has been the site of many terror attacks other than “rocks” and Molotovs. For example on February 16, 2002, a Palestinian suicide bomber walked into a crowded mall and detonated himself at the entrance to a pizza parlor.

Three teenagers were blown to pieces: Rachel Thaler (16), Keren Shatsky (15), and Nehemia Amar (15).  Twenty seven other people were badly wounded, six critically.

That suicide bomber was from Qalqilya (see map above).

It should be noted that other suicide bombers and other murderers have also come from the same area. Some of these were Palestinians and some were Israeli-Arabs.

Of course, the recent murder of Ori Ansbacher by an illegal Palestinian worker is still fresh in everyone’s mind.

Fast forward to this week, a week in which the leftist media has been raking some residents of Karnei Shomron over the coals for being “racist.”

And why are they “racist”?

The local school council in Karnei Shomron decided to hire a company that employs Israeli-Arab cleaners to clean the elementary schools in the community.

However, the evening before these cleaners were scheduled to begin work, a parents’ group erupted in protest.

As one leader put it:  “We do not intend to send our children to school when there are Arab workers who are walking around freely.”

However, the council decided to continue with the company–whereupon 40 children did not show up for school the next day. Finally, on Wednesday, the Council relented and chose another cleaning company.

In response to the allegation in the media and elsewhere about their being “racist”, a spokesman for the parents responded: “Yes, we are racists. The lives of our children are at stake. We are racists because we love our children, and we love the Jewish race.”

Your humble servant could not agree with the parents more.
