The News On the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours in Judea and Samaria . . .

Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli motorists with “rocks” and Molotovs at numerous places including on Route 446 near Ofarim, near Tekoa, and beside Luban A-Sharqiya. At Katzir, an Israeli community member discovered a bullet hole in her car–after hearing a “thud” on the car and assuming it was a “rock” thrown by a terrorist.

Persona non grata at the White House . . .

It was Passover at the White House last night and a wonderful celebration was had by all including representatives of some twenty orthodox Jewish communities.

Pointedly, no Reform Jews were on the invitee list nor were any representatives of any left-wing organizations such as J Street. After all, they have opposed every step President Trump has taken from recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital to recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

Rampage, the newest missile in the Israeli arsenal . . .

An Israeli Rampage missile--described as a "quantum jump" in missiles.

An Israeli Rampage missile–described as a “quantum jump” in missiles.

By all accounts the missiles used in Israel’s attack on Iranian targets in Syria on Saturday were Rampage missiles. They were specifically used to overcome the Russian S-300 missile defense system.

According to Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI), the Rampage is delivered from a variety of planes including F-16s and is “an accurate, ultrasonic and long-range air-to-ground missile designed to destroy quality targets.” IAI also notes that Rampage “has the best penetration capability against defense systems, precise accuracy of damage, and minimizes damage to the environment. “

Bravo Texas!

It was announced yesterday that the state of Texas has begun divesting $72 million worth of stock held in state pension funds from DNB ASA, a Norwegian financial services company. The money is being divested because under the terms of a 2017 law passed in Texas, the state will not do business with companies that support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel.

Kolakevod Texas!

A telling tweet was sent out yesterday by Jason Greenblatt. As all of you dear readers know, Greenblatt and Jared Kushner are President Trump’s main “Middle East” negotiators and are presumably the primary architects of Trump’s Deal of the Century which will soon be released.

Here was the tweet:

Welcome to the newest addition of our international maps system after @ issued a proclamation recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights

The new map.

The new map.

As Greenblatt noted, this map differs from all previous U.S. maps in that the Golan Heights is no longer listed as “occupied.” It is now considered as sovereign Israeli territory.

Of course, your humble servant would never put out a map like this which has Judea and Samaria labeled as “West Bank.” Moreover, we also call “The Gulf of Aqaba”… “The Gulf of Eilat.” We hope that these appellations will soon be changed also.

Looking at the map and the fine print, it is interesting that:

*The map is careful to note that the lines separating Israel from Gaza, Lebanon, and “the West Bank” are “Armistice” lines and not final borders.

*The map makes no distinction between Areas A, B, and C of Judea and Samaria–and calls the entire area “Israeli-occupied.”

*The map is careful to note that even though the U.S. recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in 2017, it did not recognize the specific “boundaries” of Jerusalem.

*The final sentence concerning “boundary representation” not being “necessarily authoritative” apparently refers to the various armistice lines.

Of course, it is that final sentence that opens the door to recognizing Israeli annexation of other areas–notably parts (or all) of Area C.

As disappointed as we at israelstreet are by the “West Bank” appellation, it is wonderful to see the Golan Heights recognized for what they are–Israeli. One gets the feeling that Greenblatt and Kushner and of course President Trump are chipping away at the map one “line” at a time–it is a work in progress.
