Here we are past the middle of April at Passover, and it is still snowing in northern Israel. Tonight the snow is predicted to extend further down Mt. Hermon–with the ski runs open tomorrow.

The News On The Israeli Street

CHAG SAMEACH!

Pesach (Passover) begins this evening at sundown. Israelstreet wishes a wonderful seder tonight and happy holiday to all!

To protect Israeli men, women, and children during Passover, the IDF has announced a “general closure” of Judea, Samaria, and the Gaza crosings which began at midnight last night and will continue through midnight on April 27th.

Palestinian terror in the last 4 hours on the Gaza border . . .

There has been considerable violence along the border in the past few hours. This outbreak started when Hamas snipers opened fire on an IDF engineering unit operating along the security fence. After this, IDF tanks struck the usual empty Hamas outposts and sand dunes. At this moment, Hamas is launching dozens of explosive balloons into southern Israel. There have already been fires at Nahal Oz and at other places in the Eshkol Region.

The composition of the new Knesset . . .

49 of the Knesset MKs have never been in the Knesset before.

33 of the Knesset MKs are religious including 21 who are ultra orthodox.

15 of the Knesset MKs are former officers in the IDF.

29 of the Knesset MKs are women (down from 35 in the last Knesset). Ten of the women are from the Likud Party, and ten are from the Blue and White Party.

12 of the new Knesset MKs are not Jewish, including 10 Israeli-Arabs and 2 Druze (by contrast there were 18 in the last Knesset).

5 of the new Knesset MKs are LGBT.

Obviously, with 27.5% of the Knesset now religious, we can expect ever-increasing battles between the religious and secular legislators.

TODAY’S BLOG

Happy Passover Israelis From U.S. Democrats And Their Cohorts!

If you can believe this, a group of six Democrat senators has actually proposed a bill in the U.S. Senate in the last few days that would restore aid to Palestinians living in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza.

The group is led by California Senator Dianne Feinstein who said: “President Trump’s refusal to provide humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people is a strategic mistake. Preventing funding for clean water, health services and schools in the West Bank and Gaza will not make us more secure, instead it only strengthens extremist organizations like Hamas and keeps peace even more out of reach.”

What a joke.

As we all know (except for the Democrats apparently), the UNRWA schools do little except strengthen extremist Hamas and Fatah–and make peace an ever more distant possibility.

No clean water and no health services? The Palestinians have plenty of water, multiple places where they can seek health care (including Israeli hospitals)and hundreds of millions of dollars which they use to pay terrorists who kill and try to kill Israelis.

It was precisely because of the Palestinian refusal to stop paying terrorists and their families that President Trump halted the transfer of $258.5 million to the Palestinians.

But the fact that the Palestinians continue to fund terrorism does not matter to Feinstein and the other five sponsors of the bill: Jeff Markley, Chris Koons, Patrick Leahy, Chris van Hollen and Catherine Cortez Masto.

We can expect that the other Democrats in the Senate will follow suit.

But wait . . . Israelis received another Passover present from the American “left” yesterday as J Street announced a new initiative.

J Street, which ludicrously calls itself pro-Israel and is primarily peopled by Democrats, will support political candidates who are running in the 2020 elections who will vote to have the U.S. re-enter the Iran Deal.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Iran has stepped up its efforts to create launching pads in Syria and Lebanon against Israel, and J Street and its predominantly Democrat members want to provide it with more money to do so.

Happy Passover Israelis! (pardon the cynicism)
