Continuous Updates: Missile Strikes On Israel Day 2 (3)

1:00 am Thursday

We have just emerged from our bomb shelter after 5 hours of continuous barrages into Ashdod. We counted more than 115 missiles exploding all around us, but we won’t have an updated number until tomorrow. Apparently two hours of those 5 hours contained the most concentrated missile attacks during this particular mini-war.

As of this hour the missiles continue being launched out of Gaza in advance of what is almost certainly going to be a ceasefire announced shortly.

We will discuss this more tomorrow (actually today).

Good night from Ashdod.

6:00 pm Wednesday

An emergency alert has just been issued by the IDF to the border communities and cities in the South to expect more intense missile barrages in the coming hours.

More intense?

Islamic Jihad (with Hamas approval) continues firing missiles at the citizens of southern Israel at the rate of about 5-7 barrages per hour. Since 3 pm, the terrorists in Gaza have hit Israel with 58 more missiles. The communities struck are the same communities that you have seen in our updates all day.

It is simply remarkable that so few Israelis have been wounded. Of course, after having to go through mini-wars like this for the last 10 years, residents of southern Israel know all too well the importance of getting to bomb shelters and fortified places as quickly as possible.

In addition, the Iron Dome percentage of intercepts continues to be high.

3:00 pm Wednesday

Two more hours have passed and . . .

Yad Mordechai (2:40 pm), Nahal Oz (2:35 pm),  Kerem Shalom (2:32 pm), Ein HaShlosha (2:19 pm), Sderot (1:54 pm), Ofakim (1:42 pm), Ashkelon (1:36 pm), Kerem Shalom (1:27 pm), western Negev (1:13 pm), Ein HaShlosha (1:02 pm)

Barrages of missiles continue falling–all told since yesterday: 413.

The Iron Dome continues to be effective though, as usual, the shoot-down rate has dropped from 90 to about 87%.

23 Islamic Jihad terrorists have now been eliminated.

1:00 pm Wednesday

The missiles continue being launched by Palestinian terrorists, and Israel continues hunting them down and destroying their infrastructure.

Another two hours, another 5 barrages of at least 20 missiles. The time and focus of the attacks:

11:01 am: Sderot; 11:04 am: Ashkelon; 11:05 am: Nirim; 11:30 am: Kerem Shalom; 12:04 am: Kerem Shalom

Sderot by itself has now been hit by more than 30 missiles today.

In other news:

*Akram Al-Azouri, the son of the Iranian-Islamic Jihad liaison was buried in Damascus with full terrorist honors–since he too was heavily involved in Islamic Jihad.

*It now turns out that another terrorist from the Islamic Jihad military arm, Abdullah Yusef Hassan, was also killed in the Damascus attack.

*The IDF spokesman has said that a major missile production factory and warehouse was destroyed in an attack this morning. One might question why didn’t we destroy it before now.

*Another Gaza residence, this one which was also the headquarters of the Khan Younis Brigade, has just been obliterated.

*PM Netanyahu made a surprise appearance at the Knesset today where he accused members of the Joint Arab List of sanctioning the war crimes of Islamic Jihad: “The terrorists from Gaza deliberately come to harm civilians and hide behind civilians. You sanctify their war crimes.”

11:00 am Wednesday

In the last two hours:

There have been 6 major barrages of missiles–the most recent started at 10:56 am at Sderot and is still going on. Prior to that, 20 Grad missiles were fired at Ashkelon between 9:22-9:42 am.

Here in Ashdod, we literally “feel” what is happening in Ashkelon because every time a missile explodes (either on the ground in an “open space” or in the air by virtue of an Iron Dome interception), it rattles the windows in our house.

As of this moment, OneIsrael counts 340 missiles fired at southern Israel. Fortunately, no one has been physically wounded this morning, but MADA has been inundated with calls for treatment of trauma.

In other news:

*The IAF is aggressively going after the Islamic Jihad launch squads. In the past hour, another squad was hit resulting in 4 terrorists killed and another 5 critically wounded.

9:00 am Wednesday

In the last hour:

*There have been multiple missile barrages at such locations as Netzer Hazani, Nahal Oz, Ofakim, and Kissufim.

*Apparently the Islamic Jihad terrorist was targeted and killed in the last two hours was the Commander of the Central Gaza Brigade and the Commander of Islamic Jihad’s missile facilities. He is the 11th Islamic Jihad terrorist killed in the last 24 hours.

*An unconfirmed report which the military censor has blacked out concerns the possible anti-tank missile attack on one of our tanks or military vehicles. Again, this is completely unconfirmed. Remember that the unconfirmed mortar attack on IDF soldiers yesterday remains unconfirmed.

8:00 am Wednesday

Following the 250+ missiles that were fired into southern Israel yesterday, the day has begun with 12 more barrages since 6:03 am this morning. The official IDF count stands at a total of 220. Here at OneIsrael, our count based on reports from residents on the ground stands at 304.

The main targets again are the border communities such as Sderot, Netivot, and Nahal Oz, but incoming missile sirens have been heard as far as Latrun. Sderot and Nahol Oz have just experienced  withering barrages during the last 5 minutes.

Here in far south Ashdod, we awakened to nearby explosions without any prior warning sirens. As long as the incoming missiles are projected to hit an “open” area, no sirens are sounded. Already we have had several booming Iron Dome intercepts just south of our location–the missiles were targeting northern Ashkelon and Nizzanim.

All schools in the south have canceled classes again today, and all train service to points in the south has been suspended.

Other items:

*The 8-year-old girl who collapsed after an alarm in Holon is still fighting for her life and is listed in critical condition at Wolfson Hospital. She needs your prayers.

*Another Islamic Jihad terrorist on a motorcycle has met his timely end this morning courtesy of an IAF missile.

*The unconfirmed report yesterday that Baha Abu Al Ata’s wife had also been killed in the strike early yesterday was correct.

*The unconfirmed report about the Iranian liaison to Islamic Jihad in Gaza being killed in Damascus was incorrect. He survived but his son was killed.

*Egypt is now actively mediating to stop this latest mini-war. Hamas has apparently told the Egyptians that it does not want to get involved in the fighting; however, Israel has conveyed to the Egyptians that if Hamas doesn’t stop Islamic Jihad from launching missiles, Israel will begin to target Hamas.

*Strangely enough, the last 24 hours has galvanized the push for a unity government as the Kahol Lavan (Blue and White) Party of Benny Gantz has apparently abandoned attempts to form a minority government with the help of the Joint Arab List. Instead, reports are that Kahol Lavan is thinking seriously about agreeing to a scenario in which PM Netanyahu serves as prime minister for the first year of a rotation agreement with Gantz.
