The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in Judea and Samaria in the last 24 hours . . .

*A knife-armed terrorist was captured near the Cave of the Patriarchs; no Israelis were wounded.

*Numerous “rock” and Molotov attacks against Israelis were carried out along Road 60 in Gush Etzion in such places as Al-Aruv.

*Our soldiers were attacked yet again in Hevron.

Voting begins for the March 2 election . . .

Israeli diplomats around the world  began voting today.

Today is also the final day for any organization to publish a poll concerning the March 2 election.

The new train? . . .

Minister of Transportation Bezalel Smotrich announced yesterday that plans for an underground train spur that connects Yitzhak Navon Train Station in Jerusalem with the Kotel (Western Wall) are proceeding apace.

This spur will not be built quickly–because a tunnel will have to be bored under the middle of Jerusalem and then under part of the Old City.

In fact, it may not be built at all if past experience is any indicator. Why? Because Jordan is already claiming that the train spur is a “gross violation of international law.”

It probably will not be too long until our government will shelve the project fearing that it would destabilize the Jordanian government–just as other projects in and around the Temple Mount have been frozen over the years.

The relocation of the American Embassy runs into trouble . . .

As you readers of OneIsrael know, the new American Embassy in Jerusalem is supposed to be built in the Arnona neighborhood of the city–at least partly on the site of the Diplomat Hotel which is located there.

What you may not know is that the Diplomat Hotel is not really a hotel at all but a nursing home.

It looks as if there will be a delay of at least 3 years constructing any new buildings on the site because of trying to find a new home for the 270 nursing home occupants who live there.

“Palestine” propaganda, courtesy of the E.U. . .

The European Union announced two days ago that it is now going to fund tours of young photographers to visit “the West Bank” for periods of one week at a time.

During this ongoing program, each photographer will pair with a Palestinian photographer in order “to document” the lives of “poor Palestinians” supposedly living under “Israeli occupation.”

Each visit, including housing, food, and flights are fully funded by the EU.

All of this is no surprise. It is just one extension of the overall EU policy to delegitimize Israel and support the fraudulent Palestinian narrative.

TODAY’S BLOG:

The Outrageous Sequence Of Events On The Gaza Border Today

Try to wrap your minds around this dear reader.

This morning Israel issued 7,000 new work permits for Hamasniks in Gaza to come into Israel.

Then, Hamas terrorists launched numerous explosive balloons into southern Israel which exploded in the air over Israeli communities and landed in such places as Moshav Nir.

Then, Hamas launched an experimental missile into the Mediterranean.

Then, Palestinian snipers struck an observation post, destroying IDF video surveillance cameras.

Then, Islamic Jihad snipers fired at our IDF soldiers from the Khan Younis area; no Israelis were wounded.

Then, it was announced that a Qatari emissary would be entering Gaza to distribute more blackmail money to “poor Palestinians” (aka Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists).

Then, Islamic Jihad General Secretary Ziad Nahala issued this statement:

“It is our duty to escalate the situation. This is the time of the Mujahideen carrying weapons to protect the land and the holy places. This is the time of heroes and the resistance . . . All Jews, Arabs, and Americans must understand that our people believe that Palestine is ours; everyone should know that Jerusalem is ours . . . Our duty is to incite hostilities.”

Days like this one, which occur with almost daily frequency, have become increasingly surreal for residents of the South. Our government is perfectly ready to tolerate balloon and missile attacks on themand even to reward the terrorists for carrying them out.

And this reward of work permits, fuel deliveries, concrete importation, and a host of other things is given with full knowledge that the real mission of the terror organizations in Gaza (and in Judea and Samaria) is to attack our soldiers and citizens with the ultimate goal of destroying Israel.

It is all beyond outrageous.
