The Utter Capitulation of Obama and the P5+1

UPDATES and TODAY’S BLOG:

8 am Israel time, Saturday, April 4 2015

Yesterday the Hezbollah daily newspaper in Lebanon, Al-Akhbar, headlined its paper with “New World: The West Gave In!” In the article, the paper crowed that the Lausanne Agreement not only recognizes the Iranian right to a nuclear program but also recognizes the rights of all nations to such programs. It concluded that Obama’s speech afterwards demonstrated the utter impotence of the White House and can be translated “Khamenei, I am at your command.”

Of course, all of this is exactly correct.

Since Neville Chamberlain signed away portions of Czechoslovaka to Adolf Hitler on September 30, 1938, the world has not seen such an utter capitulation to a terrorist regime.

Just a short list of the Obama capitulations to Iran makes your humble servant’s head spin (no pun intended):

–Obama said that the heavily fortified underground Fordo plant would need to be closed. According to the Agreement, the Fordo plant remains open and in operation.

–Obama said that Iranian centrifuges would have to stop enriching uranium. According to the Agreement, more than 5,000 centrifuges remain in operation.

–Obama said that Iranians must halt all research on advanced centrifuges. Iranian FM Zarif brazenly boasted from the stage in Lausanne that Iranian research and development will continue on advanced IR-4s, IR-5s, IR-6s, and IR-8s centrifuges–and that the pace of research will only be tied to Iranian scientific progress.

–Obama said that the Arak heavy water plant would need to be closed. According to the Agreement, the Arak plant remains open and in operation.

–Obama said that the Iran would have to immediately reveal its nuclear military research. According to the Agreement, that is supposed to occur sometime in the next 15 years.

–Obama said that Iran’s production of ballistic missiles would be addressed in the Agreement. There is no mention of ballistic missiles in the Agreement.

–Obama said that Iran would be left with a breakout time for a nuclear weapon of one year. According to one expert yesterday, the Agreement leaves the Iranians 3 weeks away from a nuclear bomb.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius gave an amazing interview with Europe 1 radio yesterday in which he revealed to the world just how impotent Barack Obama and the rest of the P5+1 were.

Fabius said that in the final days before the agreement, France left the negotiations in hopes of strengthening the deal. However, he said, France was forced to capitulate when the Iranians threatened to leave the talks and return to Tehran.

Who was it that twisted the limp arm of the French? Barack Obama and John Kerry. Who was it that lacked the moral backbone to stand up to Iran? Barack Obama and John Kerry.

In essence, every point that Obama said was non-negotiable turned out to be negotiable–and the Iranians ended up getting their way on each of them.

It was the Iranians who stuck to their guns and refused to concede. The Iranian positions were the ones that were non-negotiable because the West lacked the will to negotiate.

And it is in this context, that Iran hurled another threat at Israel 4 days ago when the Basij commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Mohammad Reza Naqdi, proclaimed:

“Erasing Israel off the map . . . is non-negotiable.”

Should we in Israel trust that Barack Obama “has our back” in the face of the Iranian threat?

Of course not.
