Missiles Missiles Everywhere And Not An Alarm To Be Heard

UPDATES

8:00 am Israel time, Saturday, August 8 2015

**A hopeful update:

The two soldiers who were run over in the Palestinian terrorist attack two days ago near Singil near Shiloh are both showing signs of “slight improvement”. Both of them have awakened and one of them is breathing on his own. The other remains on a respirator.

Perhaps your prayers have been effective.

**An unfortunate update:

The father of the Palestinian child who died in the Molotov cocktail attack on the family’s house in Duma last week has died. IDF security officials are concerned that Saad Dawabsha’s  death may unleash “a new wave of violence” across Judea and Samaria.

The truth is that violence has never abated in eastern Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria.

Meanwhile, the condition of the other Dawabsha child continues to improve.

**Another Israeli child is the victim of a terrorist attack . . .

Because of the proximity of the northern Jerusalem community of Pisgat Ze’ev to such terrorist hotspots as Shuafat, terrorist snipers often take pot shots at its residents.

Yesterday, a five-year-old boy was hit in the leg by a bullet that came in from out of the blue.

The boy has been hospitalized with what is described as a “moderate wound”–as if a gunshot wound to a child’s leg is ever “moderate.”

Can you imagine living in a situation in which you never know whether your children or yourself is going to get hit by a sniper’s bullet?

**If you are keeping score on the upcoming votes on the Iran Appeasement Deal in the U.S. Congress . . .

Of course, it is no game, but on the Senate side the tally of Senators who have already announced their votes stands at 27 senators in support, 58 against, and 15 undecided.

Remember that there will certainly end up being two votes. First the Congress (Senate and House) will vote on the deal itself. On that vote, which only requires a simple majority, the Iranian deal will go down to defeat.

However, President Obama will then veto that decision. To override that veto, a super-majority of 67% will then be needed. What the tally means on the Senate side is that Obama only needs 7 more Senators to agree with him. That would give him the 34 needed to support his veto.

Unfortunately, some of the staunchest Democratic senators are the ones who have “yet to decide”.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Another day, another 3 missiles fired at southern Israel.

However it was not “just another day” because the IDF has apparently decided to completely change the “incoming missile” warning system. Just as the Iron Dome does not fire at missiles which are not projected to hit a populated area (a so-called “open space” that can be as few as 50 meters away from a residence), now the incoming missile system also will not sound if the incoming missile is projected to hit an “open space.”

One would suspect that this poorly calculated decision stems from the notion that the trauma produced by the sirens themselves may be “worse” than the trauma produced by a nearby missile explosion. Of course, this is baloney.

Moreover, according to IDF thinking, by limiting the sirens, whole regions will not be sent running to their bomb shelters when “only” a relatively few missiles are fired at a specific point within that region.

Hence the story of yesterday: the IDF determined that the missiles would hit “a remote” area of the Eshkol region near Kissufim on the Gaza border. Because of the “remote location” no alarm was sounded.

However, if you have ever been to the area around Kissufim, you know that there are no “remote areas” there. There are people living everywhere amidst the primarily agricultural and lightly forested area. What would have happened yesterday if the missiles had hit where some farmer had been working in his field? Or where a mother and children were picnicking in a forest?

Finally, your humble servant wonders what is going to happen when a missile is fired at an open area near a large urban center such as Ashdod. Will no alarm sound? Are we now going to be treated to the spectacle of missiles flying over our heads and all around us with no warnings?

In any case, the final result of the attack yesterday was that the IDF attacked another empty Hamas building in Gaza, a so-called “part of Hamas infrastructure”.

Of course, Hamas was warned of the attack in advance so no terrorists were killed or wounded.
