The Vatican’s Brazen Interference in Israeli Affairs

**The daily Palestinian terror report . . .

Molotov cocktails in Hebron, Silwan, Katzir and Issawiya among other places; terrorists captured with guns and knives at the checkpoint at Shechem; arsonists setting blazes in the Hebron Hills; missiles fired at southern IsraelIsraelis saw the full panoply of Palestinian terror yesterday.

And once again (you probably tire of me saying it), there is no mention of any of this in the mainstream Israeli media, the international media, the European Union, the United Nations, or in the Obama White House.

**Speaking of the Obama White House and terrorism . . .

Bloody carnage outside the Sbarro pizza restaurant on August 9, 2001. 15 people were blown to pieces including 7 children. One of the dead was a pregnant American woman whose family sued the PLO.

As predicted several days ago on israelstreet, the Obama Administration took the extraordinary and unprecedented step yesterday of intervening in a U.S. Court case on behalf of Palestinian terrorists.

In an attempt to lessen a potential $1.1 billion dollar award against the PLO for murders and woundings of American citizens in Israel between 2000 and 2004, the Obama legal team odiously argued that “the poor PLO” would go bankrupt and the “two state solution” would go down the drain if the award was left intact.

Can you believe this? Of course you can because this is not the only area in which the Obama White House is currently supporting terrorism. Just look at the Obama effort to release funds to Iran in the Iranian Appeasement Agreement–funds that President Obama has said that he knows will go straight to fund terrorists like Hezbollah.

**Speaking of the Obama White House, bankruptcy, and Iran . . .

Amidst the pathetic parade of faux arguments that the Obama White House is trotting out to try to persuade American legislators to vote for the agreement came John Kerry yesterday with the claim that a likely result of voting against the agreement will be the “destabilization of the dollar” and all the ensuing financial chaos that would bring.

There is no lie that Obama and Kerry will not utter to support their abominable appeasement.

By the way, it was revealed yesterday that as far back as 2011, Obama and Kerry signed off on the Iranian nuclear program and affirmed–before any negotiations began–that the U.S. approved of Iranian uranium enrichment.

**Speaking of abominable . . .

The tandem efforts of the Netanyahu government and the Israeli “left” in the form of Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein and his cohorts in the Israeli judiciary to attack young Israeli activists on the “right” continued full-bore yesterday.

Not only were more activists “detained”, but a court in central Israel ruled that Evyatar Slonim and Meir Ettinger can be detained without charge, indictment, or trial for six months.

Unbelievable.

**Speaking of detentions . . .

The Israel Supreme Court ruled yesterday that the new “Anti-Infiltration Law” is legal. However, the Court also ruled that infiltrators can only be held for 12 months. This means that 1700 illegal infiltrators who have already been detained for 12 months will be released onto the streets of Israel next week.

As you may not be aware, the Israeli government has been paying detainees $3500 each to either return to their home countries or go to another country. It was revealed yesterday that a number of detainees who were paid the $3500 and left Israel have already infiltrated back into Israel again.

Gofstein being taken to court six months ago in handcuffs–only to be ordered released shortly thereafter.

As you may not know, the Vatican took the brazen step this past Sunday of attempting to interfere in internal Israel jurisprudence by filing a legal complaint and demanding the arrest of Bentzi Gofstein, the head of the anti-assimilation Jewish organization Lehava.

Regular readers of this blog know that your humble servant fully supports the mission of Lehava which is to try to encourage Jewish men and women not to marry Muslims and to try to stop missionary proselytizing of Jews (click here for a previous blog).

The Vatican’s demand is based on the fact that two members of Lehava have been charged by police for the fire that took place at the Church of the Multiplication of the Bread and Fishes near Tiberias back on June 18. Those members are awaiting trial but have yet to be convicted of anything.

In fact, based on their arrests, our so-called “Defense” Minister Moshe Ya’alon has attempted to list Lehava as a terrorist organization so that he can authorize the round up and detention of its members. Unfortunately for a reportedly angry Ya’alon, Israel’s Shin Bet issued a ruling yesterday that “there is no basis” for calling Lehava members “terrorists.”

Nevertheless, with no integrity whatsoever, the Israeli police hauled Gofstein in for questioning yesterday about comments ascribed to him at a panel discussion over the weekend. According to media reports, Gofstein said that “Jewish law permits the burning of churches.”

After three hours of intense interrogation, Gofstein was free to leave. At a press conference, he had this to say:

“I feel like this is a witch-hunt in an enemy country. I was interrogated today because of the Pope. The police must understand that Israel is a democratic country.

It is inconceivable that I was detained because in a panel discussion I quoted Maimonides who wrote that it is incumbent on Jews to fight against idolatry–to which I added that it is the responsibility of governments, not individuals.

After the interrogation, even the police said I am against the burning of churches. I understand that there is an assault on the right-wing in Israel, but why doesn’t the government investigate preachers in mosques or Ahmed Tibi or Haneen Zoabi–all of whom incite against Jews and the country of Israel everyday.

Instead the government prefers to go after me.”

Gofstein is exactly correct. Where is the investigation of the imams in the Al-Aksa Mosque who regularly call for Israel’s destruction and a holy war against “Jews”? Where is the investigation of the Tibis and Zoabis who delight in inciting the world against Israel?

The sad truth is that the current Israeli government prefers to detain and interrogate Jews instead of terrorists.
