***The Palestinian terror report from yesterday:

A Jewish student who was stabbed yesterday–just after he was stabbed. Note where a passerby is applying pressure to slow the bleeding–his neck. Virtually every Palestinian stabbing attack is in the back, head, or neck–as described on PLO and Hamas “instructional videos.” Fortunately, the student survived though he is still in extremely serious condition.

Friday was another day with 150+ Palestinian terror attacks. If there is any good news, it is that that despite being stabbed, shot at, “rock-ed”, and firebombed, Israelis managed to get through the bloody day with no one murdered–though a number of people are hospitalized in “serious” condition this morning. Two people stabbed on Thursday remain in “critical” condition.

Jerusalem, in particular, remains virtually deserted in places. Here is a picture posted yesterday of the Mahane Yehuda Market–a large area normally thriving with wall-to-wall customers:

Vendor stall are closed, few people are sitting at tables, no one is walking through the market.

Vendor stalls are closed, few people are sitting at tables, no one is walking through the market. Are the terrorists winning the battle?

A disturbing but unsurprising development is that Israeli-Arabs are now becoming more heavily involved in the violence. Following Thursday’s riot in Jaffa, Israeli-Arabs again assaulted security personnel in such places as Rahat and Umm al Fahm. More than this, the terror attack in Afula yesterday was carried out by an Israeli-Arab woman. She stabbed a soldier and was subsequently shot in the legs by police when she refused to put her knife on the ground.

What is being heard from an ever-increasing number of Israeli-Arabs is “I am a Palestinian.”

Your humble servant suggests that every Israeli-Arab who feels that way should give up all of his or her Israeli benefits and go live in Ramallah.

***Another disturbing development is . . .

. . . the Palestinian use of social media–especially Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube–to spread the violence. The Israeli media is now calling Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook “the father of the 3rd intifada.”

For example, the terrorist who was killed yesterday afternoon at Kiryat Arba posted on his Facebook page yesterday morning that his biggest desire was “to go to Al-Aksa and kill Jewish pigs.” By nightfall he was dead (his wish unfilfilled), but his “last page already has more than 10,000 “likes.”

At the same time, numerous videos have sprung up on Facebook and youtube that “teach” Palestinians how to stab “Jews”. Israelstreet is not going to post any links to these videos–but guess what? The Israeli media is playing them repeatedly on the television news.

The Israeli media, Facebook, Twitter, and youtube do not have an ounce of morality or responsibility when it comes to publishing incitement to kill Jews.

***Isn’t it funny that the Pentagon announced yesterday . . .

. . . that it is severely curtailing military assistance to the Syrian rebels. After spending more than $500,000,000 dollars to train rebel groups, the Obama Administration is now scaling back to almost nothing just at the moment the rebels need help the most.

Is it just a coincidence that Obama’s throwing the rebels under the bus follows immediately on the heels of the formation of the Russian-Iranian-Syrian coalition? Was this part of Obama’s plan all along? Or is it merely another example of Obama doing what he does best–abandoning allies in the Middle East and elsewhere?

TODAY’S BLOG:

Yesterday at noon, your humble servant was standing at Nahal Oz on the Gaza Border. Nahal Oz, you may remember, is the primary kibbutz into which Hamas terrorists tunneled, and according to residents who hear sounds under the ground all the time, are still tunneling. It is also the place where 4-year-old Daniel Tregerman was killed near the end of last year’s war when a mortar exploded in the Tregerman front yard and shrapnel pierced the front of the Tragerman home killing Daniel.

As we were standing beside an old rusted out observation tower along the community perimeter security fence looking at Shujaiyeh fewer than 500 yards across the way, we were struck as always by the complete lack of an adequate border fence. Unlike the large 5-10 meter high concrete barrier that exists between the Erez Crossing and Netiv Ha’Asara, the fence is this area is barely a fence at all.

Essentially it is a waist-high wire fence.

Look very closely at this picture taken from Nahal Oz. In the foreground is Israel; in the background is Gaza. In between, just beyond the group of IDF soldiers, you can see a part of the "Gaza Border fence."

Look very closely at this picture taken from Nahal Oz. In the foreground is Israel; in the background is Gaza. In between, just beyond the group of IDF soldiers, you can barely make out part of the “Gaza Border fence.”

The only thing that stops terrorists from strolling across the border to where we were standing yesterday is the presence of a small IDF contingent that regularly patrols up and down the fence.

It turns out that about two hours after we left Nahal Oz yesterday, more than 500 Palestinian rioters walked up to that fence, waving knives, throwing projectiles at our soldiers, and threatening to cross into Israel.

At some point shortly thereafter all hell broke loose. The soldiers, feeling that their lives were threatened, opened fire on the rioters. According to Hamas (whose numbers can never be believed), 7 Palestinians were killed and more than 30 were wounded.

Actual photographs taken at the spot by Palestinians suggest that Pallywood was operating in full force. People were being taken away on stretchers who did not appear to be wounded at all (and who went back to the fence area once they reached the Red Crescent ambulances that just happened to be in position before the riot started). Within a few hours, the initial “1 person was killed” expanded to “7”.

For its part, the IDF announced this morning that it is “investigating the incident.”

The point your humble servant would like to make this morning is that the IDF General Command is placing our young soldiers in an untenable position. Not only do the IDF and the government refuse to spend money to upgrade the fence to stop infiltrators but also they set impossible rules of engagement that risk of the lives of IDF soldiers.

It is a situation that must change–and putting a so-called “smart fence” around communities like Nahal Oz is not the answer.

One final note: as this blog is being written this morning, Hamas reports that “hundreds of young people” are marching toward Nahal Oz again.
