UPDATES 9:00 am Israel time:

–>Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Unfortunately, the ten-day respite in stabbings following the Hevron incident on March 24th came to an end.

At 1:03 pm, a Palestinian terrorist stabbed an Israeli in the head in Rosh Hayin. This morning the Israeli woman is described as in “moderate condition.” The female terrorist was chased down by people on the street and held at bay until security forces arrived.

At 4:13 pm, a Palestinian terrorist attempted to carry out stabbing attack at the Tapuach Junction. He pulled out a knife to stab soldiers, but thought better of it when they all pointed their guns at him. No Israelis were wounded, and the terrorist was taken into custody.

At 5:25 pm, a Palestinian terrorist armed with a knife was captured on his way to carrying out an attack at Beit El.

In addition to the above, terrorists threw Molotov firebombs at IDF forces inside Umm Salmona (near Efrat), at Alei Zahav, at Rachel’s Tomb, and inside Issawiya.

Terrorists assaulted Israeli soldiers with “rocks” at Besokabeh, Al-Ram, Migdalot, Halhul, Al-Khader, Huwara, and at many other places.

–>Another bogus report from UNRWA about Gaza . . .

UNRWA fraudulently and outrageously accused Israel yesterday of preventing building materials from reaching Gaza.

The building materials which are supposed to be used for rebuilding homes but are in fact used for building Hamas tunnels and command centers have been pouring into Gaza through Israeli crossings at the incredible rate of 500-1000 truckloads per day.

So many trucks in fact, that the residents of southern Israel are up in arms because of the increasing number of residents being killed in accidents caused by the massive trucks speeding in and out of the region.

–>A brief follow-up on the case of the Hevron soldier . . .

An autopsy performed yesterday on the dead terrorist allegedly showed that the terrorist probably would not have died from the initial gunshot wounds he suffered, and that it was the gunshot wound of the soldier in question that killed him. Another hearing about the incident is taking place tomorrow.

–>More bad days for Hezbollah in Syria . . .

The leading Hezbollah field commander at Aleppo was killed yesterday, and the organization posted the pictures of 12 more Hezbollah members who met the same fate–nine of them are shown in the group photo below.

–>A brief follow-up on the case of Meir Ettinger . . .

After 8 months in administrative detention without being charged with a crime, Ettinger’s request to attend his son’s brit milah was ridiculously turned down yesterday by the Beersheva District Court. His family is appealing the decision to the Israel Supreme Court today.

–>The Bank of Israel’s generally positive report yesterday . . .

The Bank reported that the Israel economy saved $5 billion in 2015 from steep declines in oil and coal prices as well as those in the commodities. A record balance of payments surplus of 4.7% of the GDP resulted. Individual households used the additional income to increase their savings. The minimum wage rose with the average worker’s (including non-minimum wage earners) salary rising 2.8%. Unemployment was extremely low, and inflation was in negative territory.

The Bank noted that poverty continues to be high because of two reasons. First, more than 50% of ultra-orthodox families are poor because of their phenomenally high birthrate (in some areas the rate is around 10 per family). Second, Israeli-Arab families tend to be poorer because there is usually only one wage earner per family.

TODAY’S BLOG:

In a few days, we’ll be leaving Israel until June. Yesterday, we took a trip to Jerusalem to visit our youngest son and his wife.

1. We always head straight to the Kotel (Western Wall). It is impossible for most people to grasp the depth of the Jewish love for this place–an enduring love which has lasted through the millennia. Yesterday, I took a picture of this man who was brushing his lips back and forth across the stones in an apparent state of ecstasy completely oblivious to everything else. He was doing this when I arrived there, and he was still doing it an hour later when I left:

??????????????

2. As I sat watching the parade of people going to the Wall, singing and dancing erupted behind me. It was this group of joyous orthodox men holding hands in a circle and dancing with their sons and grandsons who had just finished a particular section of Torah study. Anyone could join in, and after I took this picture, I did:

3. Among those visiting the Wall were tour groups from Ghana, Russia, and Japan. The people in this picture were from China. Even though it was a very hot and sunny day, people must be covered when they approach the Wall:

4. All along the way, we encountered hundreds of soldiers, Border Guards, and police. This group was on the steps leading from the Kotel up into the Jewish Quarter:

5. The commander of this group is the woman to the left in the picture below (notice how she is in the shade):

6. Finally, on our way back to the car, your humble servant had his picture taken with some of our brave soldiers in the Mamilla promenade:
