UPDATES 4 pm Israel time:

–>Palestinian terrorism since Sunday morning.

Yesterday morning, PM Netanyahu opened his weekly Cabinet meeting with this blather:

“Today the Cabinet will hear a [security] briefing that shows a significant decline in the scope of terrorist attacks. I say this with great caution because this trend could reverse itself, but we know that it has been achieved up to now as a result of the government’s strong, responsible and methodical policy.”

A significant decline?

On Sunday:

Palestinian terrorists rioted in Sur Baher, Silwad, Kfar Aida, Issawiya, Beit Ummar, and on Saladin Street in Jerusalem.

Palestinian terrorists threw Molotov firebombs at the Psagot community fence, at security forces in Aqraba, and at Israeli motorists north of Ofra, and at Migdalot.

Palestinian “rock” throwing terrorists badly damaged a bus at Karmi Tzur in Gush Etzion and a car of the Jerusalem Light Rail train.

Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fired at an IDF patrol along the northern Gaza border.

So far today:

Terrorists have assaulted Israelis with “rocks” at the Jit Junction, at Al-Khader, on Road 443, at Beit Horon, and in Hebron.

*11 wanted Palestinian terrorists were captured last night in Samaria and the Hebron Hills; at the same time a cache of M-16s, ammunition cartridges, and military vests was discovered.

*Five Palestinian Hamas terrorists were killed in the collapse of yet another tunnel in southern Gaza near Rafah.

–>While all of the above terrorism was taking place . . .

. . . Moshe Ya’alon was busy arresting more Jewish teenagers from Judea and Samaria and hauling them into court in Petah Tikva.

No one is being formally charged with anything. The government merely wants to chuck them in prison and hold them, interminably, under “administrative detention.”

Dozens of protesters appeared outside the court today to protest the gross violation of the teenagers’ civil rights.

*After the most convoluted and absurd machinations, the home of one of the terrorists, whose “rock” throwing resulting in the murder of Alexander Levlovich at Rosh Hashana last year, was sealed with concrete today.

You may recall that our idiotic Supreme Court ruled last week that three other terrorist homes could not be sealed because those “rock” throwers were standing slightly farther away from Levlovich’s car when they threw the “rocks.”

–>All indications continue to point to a reconciliation agreement between Turkey and Israel . . .

. . . with Israel acceding to virtually every Turkish demand including, apparently, a substantial lifting of the maritime blockade of Gaza.

Just this morning, Turkish President Erdogan’s spokesman, declared that that Turkey will not change its demand that the blockade be lifted while various reports have revealed that the agreement has been reached and is ready to be signed.

–>More blather from Netanyahu . . .

In advance of Passover, Netanyahu declared today that he has never agreed to even “limit” the number of Jews who can visit the Temple Mount in Jerusalem–and especially not “religious Jews.”

This is pure hokum.

Netanyahu working in collusion with the Jordanian government and the Jordan-based Islamic Wakf has long limited the number of Jews who can rise to the Mount. This limitation is accomplished in many ways, not least of which are the draconian restrictions on times that Jews can go up to the holiest place in Judaism.

Just last Tuesday, your humble servant was in Jerusalem and watched how the Mughrabi Gate opened at 1:30 pm, at which time Jews (and others) were allowed to run to the Mount in groups of about 20 at a time. At 2:30 pm, the Gate was slammed shut.

And oh by the way, Netanyahu has overtly promised the Jordanians and the Wakf that no Israeli Knesset legislators will be allowed on the Mount.

–>Speaking of the coming of Passover . . .

What has become a regular occurrence of “sacrifice” will take place again this year at Mitzpe Beit Orot, between Mt. Scopus and Zurim–in full view of the Temple Mount.

The Passover “offering” which simulates what used to take place on the Mount is free and open to the public. It will begin next Monday, 4 days before Passover. According to those who manage the event:

” . . . apart from the fact that the practice of allowing a glimpse into ancient Jewish experience, the event  is intended primarily to arouse anticipation and longing to renew our days as of old . . . We hope that we will soon we will return to our Temple Mount. Until then we will continue to stimulate the longing, the emotions and memories that emerge to revive the ancient words from the Passover Haggadah. We will blow soul into those words by remembering colors and smells we have not experienced for almost two thousand years.”

TODAY’S BLOG:

Not only has the Netanyahu government frittered away Israeli sovereignty over the Temple Mount, it continues to do so in Area C of Judea and Samaria.

In a Knesset Foreign Affairs subcommittee today, we heard the same outrageous story concerning illegal Palestinian construction in Area C that we have been reporting here on israelstreet for years.

Specifically:

1. Planned and financed by the European Union, more than 1000 illegal Palestinian structures have been built since 2013.

2. More than just “structures”, entire illegal settlements have been built with the EU providing infrastructure–including the building of roads within the settlements, and roads in Area C to connect with roads in Jordan.

3. In addition, thousands of other illegal structures have been built by the PLO.

4. Only 10% of all of the structures and settlements–EU funded and otherwise–have been demolished or are scheduled for demolition. The lack of demolition has allowed the EU and the PLO to “establish facts on the ground.”

5. The Civil Administration, guided by our “Defense” Minister Moshe Ya’alon, spends much of its time destroying homes and synagogues in Jewish communities.

In short, Israel is gradually relinquishing its sovereignty over Area C–60% of the so-called “West Bank”, despite the fact that there are almost 7 times more Jews living there than Palestinians (the Jewish population is now at about 425,000 while the Palestinian population is about 60,000). Unfortunately, because of the EU’s aggressive effort to transfer Palestinians into Area C, this latter number is growing rapidly.

It is an infuriating situation.

Why doesn’t Israeli destroy all illegal Palestinian buildings in Area C? The answer is simple: the Israel Supreme Court. The Palestinians have an army of international lawyers, and every single building destruction must be approved by the Court.

Why must the demolitions be approved by the Court? The answer is simple. It is because the Court sticks its nose into everything. Just look at the absurd decision described above in the Levlovich case.

But the bottom line is that the illegal buildings are not destroyed because the Netanyahu government lacks the will to do so.
