NUMBER OF TERRORIST MISSILES AND MORTARS SHOT AT SOUTHERN ISRAEL SINCE THE CEASEFIRE AGREED TO BY BENJAMIN NETANYAHU ON NOVEMBER 21, 2012:
30
UPDATES 10 am Israel time Thursday:
***There was another shooting incident on the Gaza border yesterday when yet another mob of Gazans approached the fence taking advantage of the ridiculously dangerous decision of the Netanyahu government to give up the 300 meter buffer zone between Israel and Gaza.
A number of IDF soldiers have openly denounced that decision pointing out that the ability of Hamas to kidnap soldiers has been radically improved as has the ability of Hamas to kill IDF soldiers who are stationed on the fence.
***It has now been revealed by disgruntled IDF officers on the ground that less that two hours after the supposed ceasefire with Hamas went into effect last Wednesday, the IDF identified a Hamas terrorist cell that was launching missiles into Israel in an attempt to kill Israeli men, women, and children. Following procedure, the IDF officers asked the IDF Commander in the South, Maj. Gen. Tal Russo, for permission to strike the cell to stop the firing and prevent more firing. Russo refused to permit them to attack the terrorists–worried that it would “upset the ceasefire.”
Russo has subsequently issued orders that even if a Hamas cell begins firing rockets at Israel, there can be no return fire until he specifically approves such fire. In Russo’s words, the IDF should “not rush to shoot” at the terrorists.
This is the same Russo that has now been chosen to become the Deputy Head of the IDF. Simply unbelievable.
TODAY’S BLOG:
Today is the Palestinians’ big day at the United Nations in which they are going to be overwhelmingly granted “non-member-state observer status.” Given the fact that the United Nations has been run by a Palestinian agenda for the last 40+ years, today’s upgrade in status would appear to make little difference.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
For one thing, the Palestinians will now have access to the International Criminal Court with the result that every Israeli will be hauled before that court and accused of war crimes. For another, Palestinian terrorists in Israeli prisons will now apparently assume the status of “prisoners of war” with all the “rights” that status entails.
But more than this, the Palestinian Authority will, in effect, no longer exist because upgrading the status effectively abrogates its creation by the so-called Oslo Peace Accords. Whatever Israel agreed to back in 1994, it is now no longer bound by. For example, all agreements having to do with Areas A, B, and C of Judea and Samaria will now be null and void should Israel so decide.
All of which makes the Netanyahu government’s response to what is taking place in New York completely mystifying to your humble servant. After first issuing endless threats about what will happen to the Abbas and the Palestinian Authority if the vote goes ahead, Israel has suddenly lapsed into a coma.
Well not quite. Yesterday, after saying that it would not do so, Israel transferred 200,000,000 shekels–$50 million dollars–to the Palestinian Authority to pay the salaries of its officials–in the same spirit of how Israel unbelievably continues to fund Hamas.
This afternoon at 4:00 pm Israel time Knesset members Aryeh Eldad and Michael Ben Ari of the new Power To Israel party are spearheading a protest outside the U.N. Headquarters in Jerusalem at Armon Hanatziv.
At that protest, as the vote in the U.N. is taking place, the protesters plan to burn PLO flags. As Eldad says: “Israel must declare immediately that the meaning of the unilateral Arab step is the annulment of the Oslo Accords. It is not enough to vote against Mahmoud Abbas’s proposal at the UN; the PA must also be declared illegal, and its flags be burned from the moment they ask for recognition as a state.”
Your humble servant could not agree more.
There was one piece of remarkably good news to emerge from Jerusalem yesterday.
The Jerusalem Municipality granted initial approval for the plans to rebuild the majestic Tiferet Israel synagogue which once towered over the Jerusalem skyline in the Jewish Quarter. The Tiferet has lain in ruins since it was detonated with explosives by the Jordanian Legion at 1 am on May 21, 1948 as the beginning salvo of the Jordanian campaign to ethnically cleanse the Old City of Jerusalem of all Jews.
By the way, UNESCO–an arm of the same United Nations that will approve the Palestinian upgrade today– came out several months ago against rebuilding the Tiferet Synagogue because it said that such rebuilding might result in “widespread rioting” in the city.
Did you understand that? Jews cannot rebuilt a synagogue destroyed by Arabs in the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem because Arabs might get upset.
In 2012, such is the credibility of the United Nations.
