NUMBER OF TERRORIST MISSILES AND MORTARS SHOT AT SOUTHERN ISRAEL SINCE THE CEASEFIRE AGREED TO BY BENJAMIN NETANYAHU ON NOVEMBER 21, 2012:

34

UPDATES 9 am Israel time Monday:

**As you may have noted from the israelstreet breaking news ticker, yesterday was a typical day in Judea and Samaria with Palestinians throwing Molotov cocktails in Hawara and “rocks” in Azzun, at the entrance to the Jerusalem-Gush Etzion tunnel, and in Kfar Kadum and Har Homa. Israeli motorists and IDF patrols were on the receiving ends of these terrorist projectiles. Today’s blog below focuses on one recent instance of “rock” throwing.

**The IDF of Benjamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak, completely oblivious to the missile war that Hamas waged against southern Israel just two weeks ago, proudly reported yesterday that 3,908 “truckloads” were delivered to Hamas Gaza during the month of November through the Kerem Shalom Crossing (which was under regular missile attack).

These included: 1,233 truckloads of food; 77 truckloads of clothes and footwear; 37 truckloads of agricultural machinery; 1,377 truckloads of construction materials; 69 truckloads of electrical products; 188 truckloads of ceramics and plumbing. In addition, the IDF reported that 1,924 tons of cooking gas were delivered.

Even more unbelievably than this, 2,222 “movement permits” were granted: 1,303 for medical reasons; 882 for Hamas “businessmen” to enter Israel; 88 for Gazans attending weddings, funerals, and “just visiting”; and 82 for the employees of the virulently anti-Israel NGOs in Gaza. It’s nice to know that the IDF was permitting Hamas citizens to roam freely about Israel while their terrorist government was trying to kill all of us Israeli citizens here in southern Israel.

The son of a Lachish Defense Commander stands beside the Shamesh (made from a Grad rocket) of the Chanukiah that his father made out of 8 Qassam missiles that struck our southern region during November. According to the boy's father, this particular Chanukiah symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness.

But wait, there is more, dear reader . . . the IDF also reports that on December 6th–4 days ago and presumably in honor of Hamas Chief Khaled Mashaal’s arrival in Gaza–399 truckloads delivering “a variety of goods and 108 tons of gas were delivered to Hamas (we wouldn’t want the car that Meshaal used during his “victory parade” through Gaza to run out of gas).

**And how has Meshaal responded to this Israeli generosity? By again proclaiming yesterday that “every inch” of Palestine will be conquered by Hamas and that the Zionists will be tossed into the sea from Haifa to Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Meshaal’s comments drew this response from Netanyahu yesterday: “We are a government without illusions, we want real peace with our neighbors, but we do not close our eyes and not bury our heads in the sand. We are not willing to repeat the same mistake of unilaterally withdrawing such as led to Hamas control of Gaza. . . You give [the Palestinians]  more land, in this case the land of Judea and Samaria and the result, of course, will be Gaza on the outskirts of Tel Aviv, Hadera and Kfar Saba. Therefore, we must be able to stand against it [and] stand against international pressure.”

As has been observed many times in recent days in this blog, Netanyahu knows how to make a good speech; unfortunately, he just doesn’t know how to act decisively anymore.

TODAY’S BLOG:

. . . Palestinians throwing “rocks” at Israeli motorists . . .

It was Wednesday, November 28, the last day of the IDF operation against Hamas to try to stop the rocket fire into southern Israel.

Ziona Kala, a 60 year old grandmother, had just been picked up by her daughter, Or, from her home in Tzur Hadassah and they were driving back to Jerusalem. Ziona’s son-in-law, Jesse, had just been called to reserve duty, and so she was going to help Or look after their children while Or worked in her job as a fashion designer.

Or later described that as they were driving along the Husan bypass road near the Betar Illit tunnel, they saw “young Palestinians standing beside the road”. The next thing they knew, they were hit with a barrage of “rocks”.

Or swerved up the car to try to avoid the attack, but one of the “rocks” crashed through the windshield and hit Ziona in the head. When Or looked over at her mother, she saw her bloody and unconscious–and without hesitation, sped toward the entrance to Beitar Illit, pulled over, and called medical and security forces.

Emergency medical technicians quickly arrived and rushed Ziona to Hadassah Hospital in nearby Ein Kerem where she was hurried into the emergency room with traumatic brain injuries.

In fact, Ziona’s injuries were so severe that she had already lapsed into a coma and had to be put on a respirator to keep breathing. Or called her father Itzik (Isaac) to come immediately (Itzik Kala is a famous Israeli singer who was in a Jerusalem recording studio at the time).

Itzik rushed to the hospital emergency room where he was taken to a “family” room where in his words: “At first they told me that my my wife had died.” But, as he sat in the room, overcome with grief, another hospital official came shortly thereafter and said: “Isaac, do not cry, your wife is on a respirator, she was seriously injured, but she is alive.”  Itzik was immediately taken to her bedside.

All he could think to do when he saw that his beloved wife was near death was sing to her one of her favorite songs: “Where did you go my wife, I want to see your face, you know I’m addicted to you.” And Itzik said that he could see tears in Ziona’s eyes.

And so the situation remained for the last two weeks–with Itzik never leaving Ziona’s bedside as she lay in a coma.

Then suddenly and unexpectedly, on Tuesday, Ziona emerged from her coma and began to speak. According to doctors, they now expect Ziona to fully recover.

Was Ziona’s recovery a “pre-Chanuka” miracle? Did it show the power of “light” (“or” in Hebrew) over darkness?

All of us in Israel would like to think so.

So the next time, dear reader, that you read about . . . Palestinians throwing “rocks” at Israeli motorists . . . think of Ziona Kala.
