UPDATES 6 pm Israel time Monday:
*As you can see from the israelstreet breaking news ticker, there were Molotov cocktail attacks in many parts of Judea and Samaria on Sunday that have continued into Sunday evening and today.
In that regard, Shin Bet announced the arrests this afternoon of a major terror cell operating out of Shuafat and Ras Khamis in northern Jerusalem. Those arrested include: Hussam al-Din (19), Ahmad Tzndoka (19), Muhammad Jamal, Ahmed Salah (21), Malek Fauzi, and Omar Mhessen (21). The group, which is affiliated with Hamas, has been charged with weapons production, aggravated assault, arson, attacking a police officer, and rioting. More specifically, these terrorists have been charged with the attack on the Shuafat checkpoint police station on September 14th of this year.
*At a Jerusalem City Council meeting last night, one of the members pointed out the utter absurdity of the international outcry over the E1 project being used as a project to separate Arab neighborhoods in Jerusalem–particularly in light of the fact that hundreds of Arab housing units have illegally been built in Shuafat which drive a wedge between the predominantly Jewish neighborhoods of Pisgat Ze’ev and French Hill. Where, she questioned, is the international condemnation of this building? And why, she queried, isn’t the Netanyahu government doing anything about the illegal construction?
TODAY’S BLOG:
Whenever your humble servant hears that Israel is engaged in “negotiations”, or has returned to “the negotiating table”, or is “prepared to make compromises”, I literally feel ill.
Why you may ask? Because when it comes to Israel, there are no such things as “negotiations” or “compromises”–there are only concessions.
Think back to every time that Israel has ever “negotiated” or “compromised”.
For example, when Israel “negotiated” with Egypt at Camp David, what happened? Israel withdrew from the Sinai, dismantled Yamit, and withdrew from Taba down on the Red Sea beside Eilat. Where did Egypt withdraw from? Nowhere.
When Israel “negotiated” with Jordan in 1994, what happened? Israel gave Jordan 300 square kilometers (120 sq mi) along the Jordan River, including the laughably called “Peace Island” (a Jordanian soldier based on “Peace” Island shot 7 Israeli school girls to death there three years later in 1997), and agreed to lease Jordan 2850 dunams (2.85 km²) in the Arava. Where did Jordan withdraw from? Nowhere.
When Israel “negotiated” with the Palestinians in 1993 and 1994, what happened? Israel withdrew from parts of Judea and Samaria and suggested it would withdraw from the entire area if “peace” would be forthcoming. Where did the Palestinians withdraw from? Nowhere.
We could continue on and on–when the Israel recently “negotiated” with the Russian government over properties in Jerusalem, what happened? Israel withdrew from properties the Russians “claimed”. When Israel “negotiated” even more recently with the Vatican over properties in Jerusalem, what happened? Israel withdrew from properties the Vatican “claimed”.
So yesterday, when your humble servant read that Israel was “negotiating” with Lebanon over oil and gas drilling areas in the Mediterranean, the only question I had was “how much territory is Israel going to give away this time?”
The preliminary answer is not good. Because Israel and Lebanon do not have diplomatic relations, the United States has assumed responsibility for reaching a “compromise.” Unfortunately for Israel (what’s new?), the primary American “mediator”, former George Mitchell deputy Fred Hof, has completely sided with the Lebanese.
In seeking an Obama-esque “equitable distribution of Mediterranean gas and oil reserves”, Hof is apparently pushing for moving the maritime border between Lebanon and Israel 15 km south at is widest point (see map). More than this, Hof is apparently pushing for “sharing the resources outside of the 12 mile offshore line”–as the Mediterranean stretches out toward Cyprus.
It appears that Israel has tentatively and ridiculously agreed (again, in order to keep “peace” with Lebanon).
Land and now sea for “a promise of peace”–a promise that, as we all know, is completely worthless.
The only way that Israel can make the world happy is by withdrawing. And the only way the world will ever be truly happy is for Israel to withdraw itself out of existence.
