NUMBER OF DAYS UNTIL THE ISRAELI ELECTION: 18
ISRAELSTREET endorses NAFTALI BENNETT for Prime Minister
Head of “HaBayit HaYehudi” (The Jewish Home) political party
UPDATE 5 pm Israel time Friday:
This afternoon has seen an outpouring of “rock” throwing in Judea and Samaria–especially in the area around Ramallah. Fortunately no Israeli motorists have been physically injured, but there are reports of Israeli women and children being traumatized by the Palestinian terror attacks which shattered the windshields and windows of cars.
TODAY’S BLOG:
*In what should be a surprise to no one, PM Netanyahu has once again succumbed to international pressure–this time in regard to construction in the E1 area near Ma’ale Adumim.
After Netanyahu called for the accelerated building of 3000 residential units, the Supreme Planning Council and the Civil Administration submitted two plans to initiate construction. The plans were approved by municipal officials and Defense Minister Ehud Barak. However, the plans have now been frozen by Netanyahu’s office.
MK Uri Ariel, Chairman of the State Control Committee and member of the Jewish Home party denounced Netanyahu last night: “Stopping the publication of master plans in E1 by the Prime Minister’s Office shows that all his talk about the settlement is an illusion. The day after the election we will find again the true Netanyahu who freezes and gives in to [international] pressure.”
*The Islamic Wakf continues to destroy the Temple Mount and even the eastern wall of the Old City. The pictures below tell the story:
Why is this scaffolding necessary? Because the Wakf is digging on the inside, undermining the wall:
But no one does anything about it. Despite endless reports made by archaeologists, the Netanyahu government and Jerusalem police refuse to act–and the pile of rubble underneath the wall grows:
*Our final story from Jerusalem today is from the National Library of Israel–which has just acquired a remarkable manuscript from Afghanistan. The circuitous route it took from its discovery in a Taliban cave in northern Afghanistan to its new home in Jerusalem is remarkable but too lengthy to recount here.
Suffice it to say that this manuscript proves the existence of a large Jewish community that dates from just after the destruction of the second Temple when Jews were dispersed throughout the area by Nebuchadnezzar. According to the renowned Jewish traveler Benjamin of Tudela, the community numbered as many as 80,000 Jews as recently as 900 years ago.
Today there is only one Jew left in Afghanistan, Zabon Simintov–but that is a different story.
