UPDATE 6 pm Israel time Monday:
You may remember that last week, israelstreet reported that 5 Jews from Kiryat Arba were detained and searched to make sure that they were not carrying small Israeli flags up to the Temple Mount in celebration of Israel Independence Day.
The Jerusalem police found no such flags. However, the following picture shows what was unfurled by Palestinians this morning on the Temple Mount’s Dome of the Rock:
Where were the Jerusalem police today while this flag was hung on the Dome of the Rock? They were out in force arresting one Jew from Beit Shemesh for attempting to pray on the Temple Mount.
TODAY’S BLOG:
Your humble servant has often bewailed the Arabization of Israeli political and military leaders. Whereas we once had laconic leaders who acted rather than speaking, we now have loquacious leaders who strut and bluster–but rarely act.
Yesterday we had another classic example of this pathetic behavior from PM Netanyahu at the weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem. Referring to the three missiles that struck Eilat last week, Netanyahu put on his usual meaningless, rhetorical show:
“Those responsible were apparently members of a terrorist cell that left Gaza and used Sinai in order to attack an Israeli city. This is unacceptable. We will exact a price for this; this has been our consistent policy for the past four years and it will serve us here as well.”
Who is kidding whom? The Netanyahu government’s only consistent policy for the past four years has been to do nothing. The incredible inference that one can draw from Netanyahu’s statement is that as long as the terrorist cells remain in Gaza and attack Israelis from there, they have nothing to worry about. But once they move out of Gaza to the Sinai, they had better watch out! Who knows what Netanyahu and the IDF might do?
Actually do you know what Netanyahu did after his tough talk yesterday? He ordered the government to file an official complaint with the Egyptian government. That is the “price” Israel “exacted” for the attack on Eilat.
And do you know what the Palestinian terrorists in Gaza have done this afternoon? Aside from cutting a hole in the border fence near Kibbutz Nir Am, and opening fire on an IDF patrol, and shooting three mortars at the citizens of southern Israel, not much–they are too afraid of what Netanyahu and the IDF might do.
