10:23 pm: Two IDF soldiers shot and wounded at checkpoint near Givat Ze’ev on Road 443. One soldier seriously wounded; the other moderately. The terrorist escaped.

10:34 pm: Incoming missile sirens blare for Zones 220, 221, 252 along the Gaza border.

Updates 7:00 pm Israel time:

–>Palestinian terrorism continues with an infiltration, a stabbing, and numerous “rock” and Molotov attacks.

At 7:34 am, an Israeli woman driving near Beit Haggai in the Hebron hills was attacked by a Palestinian terrorist who threw a Molotov firebomb into her car. Miraculously, she escaped with no physical wounds, but had to be treated for trauma.

At 10:56 am, IDF soldiers captured a terrorist infiltrator near Othniel who was on his way to attack men, women, and children.

At 1:59 pm, a Jewish man was stabbed at the Dung Gate in Jerusalem. The man suffered “moderate” wounds; the terrorist was later captured in an alleyway of the Old City.

–>Israel is not just a young, start-up nation, but also one in which many other records are being set.

Israel Kristal, Israeli citizen and the world's oldest man.

Israel Kristal, Israeli citizen and the world’s oldest man.

Yesterday, the Guiness Book of World Records recognized that Haifa resident Israel Kristal is the oldest man in the world.

112 years, five months, and 26 days old, Kristal was born in Zarnow Poland in 1903. He began studying Hebrew when he was three years old, Torah at 4, and Mishna at six.

He went on to become a confectioner in Lodz and married, but was taken to Auschwitz in 1944 where his wife was murdered.  By 1950, Kristal had married again, had a son, and moved to Haifa where he continued to be a candy-maker, specializing in making chocolate bottles filled with liqueur.

When recently asked about what diet has contributed to his longevity, Kristal answered: “In the camps there wasn’t always anything to eat. What they gave me, I ate. I eat to live; I don’t live to eat. I don’t need too much. Anything that’s too much is no good.”

–>The Republican debate last night revealed much about the candidates and their position on Israel.

Your humble servant has studiously avoided discussing the presidential campaign in the United States. However, last night’s debate confirmed what I have thought all along.

There are no bigger supporters of Israel than Mario Rubio and Ted Cruz. Both of them went to exhaustive lengths to underline their love of Israel–and how President Obama has undermined the U.S.-Israel relationship for the last seven years.

The debate also showed that if Donald Trump is elected, we will have a replay of Obama–as we will if Hillary Clinton is chosen.

–>The theater of the absurd . . .

Today, the Israeli registrar of social workers officially recognized university graduates in social work from Al-Quds University.

At a time, when Al-Quds aggressively works around the world to promote the BDS academic boycott of Israel and stages one violent demonstration after another against Israel, Israel is going to recognize Al-Quds graduates so that they can work in Israel.

Unbelievable.

Well, not so much . . .

TODAY’S BLOG:

The Netanyahu Security Cabinet just doesn’t get it.

After their meeting last night, it was announced that:

*Existing gaps in the security fence around Jerusalem will be closed. For example, a fence has yet to be built around Gush Etzion, Ariel, and Ma’aleh Adumim.

*An additional fence will be constructed around Tarquimiyah, a Palestinian settlement near Hebron. The fence would divide Tarquimiyah from Kiryat Gat.

*Palestinian radio stations that incite Palestinians to violence will be closed (last night Islamic Jihad’s Falastin Al-Yom in Ramallah was taken off the air and taken offline).

*Legislation against those who help and employ illegal Palestinian workers will be fast-tracked.

*There will be an easing of procedures necessary to destroy the homes of terrorists.

At first blush, the above steps all appear to be important ones that might have an effect on the situation.

However, at second glance, they are woefully inadequate steps.

Adding sections of fence to plug existing gaps in the separation fence will take years. Similarly, building a new fence in the Hebron area will take years.

All Palestinian radio stations incite everyday. Closing down one radio station will accomplish nothing.

Stopping employers from hiring illegal Palestinians is a great idea, but with somewhere between 70,000 and 100,000 illegal Palestinian workers living in the country, there is no chance of this taking place soon.

Facilitating home demolitions is another action that sounds great but has no practical effect. At the moment, there is a backlog of some 90 Palestinian homes that were approved for demolition but are still standing–and the destruction of these 90 was approved by the Israel Supreme Court. Any new homes would have to go through a long process of judicial appeal.

So what is there to do?

Nothing less than a sea change.

The Netanyahu Security Cabinet is avoiding tackling the main issue which is that the model of “coexistence” so heavily promoted by the writers of the Oslo Accords, European Union, Obama Administration and others is dead.

First, the Netanyahu government must recognize it is dead.

Second, the Netanyahu government must recognize and exercise Israeli sovereignty over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem and all of Area C in Judea and Samaria. Area C should be annexed to Israel immediately.

Third, the Netanyahu government should divorce itself economically, socially, and politically from Areas A and B as well as from Gaza.

What are the chances of the above three happening? Zero.

And so, the terrorism we face will continue indefinitely as the government remains hamstrung by pusillanimity and political correctness.
