UPDATES 6 am Israel time:

–>Israelis murdered in Istanbul attack yesterday . . .

Avraham and Joy Damari. Joy was murdered yesterday by a suicide bomber and her husband was badly wounded.

Avraham and Joy (Simcha) Damari. Joy was murdered yesterday by a suicide bomber and her husband was badly wounded.

According to the most recent reports, 3 Israelis were killed and 11 more wounded when an IS bomber detonated himself on Istiklal Street in downtown Istanbul yesterday. The Israelis were in Turkey on a guided culinary tour.

Two of those killed were dual Israeli-American citizens.

The third was Simcha Damari of Dimona. A mother of 4 and a grandmother, Joy was a beloved kindergarten teacher in the city known for her infectious sense of humor. She was also beloved because of her never ending efforts to help the needy of Dimona.

According to one lightly wounded member of the culinary group, the terrorist was apparently looking around for a place to detonate, heard several people in the group speaking Hebrew, came toward them, and blew himself up.

Two non-Israelis were killed, and more than 25 more non-Israelis were wounded.

In the aftermath of the attack, the media representative for Turkish President Erdogan’s ruling party tweeted that she wished that all of the dead had been Israelis. She was reportedly fired later in the day. Turkish PM Ahmet Davutoglu conveyed his condolences to Israeli officials.

This morning, MADA teams have already landed in Istanbul and are ferrying the Israeli wounded back home.

–>Palestinian terrorists attempt murders yesterday.

In the morning, a Palestinian terrorist tried to stab Border Guards at the Pharmacy Checkpoint in Kiryat Arba. One Guard was “moderately” wounded. The terrorist was shot and killed.

Later in the morning, a terrorist rammed his truck into an an IDF officer’s car near Dotan in Samaria. The impact flipped the military vehicle over, but the passengers were not wounded. Unbelievably, the terrorist escaped.

There were numerous “rock” and Molotov attacks during the day. IDF troops came under attack in Jadira and Ofra. Last night the Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Orot was the target of more than 10 Molotov firebombs.

–>Intense violence in the Egyptian Sinai overnight.

Apparently (details are still sketchy), IS terrorists carried out two attacks.

In the first, a gas pipeline was blown up (one Egyptian source claims it was a gas leak) in a tunnel in Rafah along the Egypt-Gaza border. At least 15 Egyptian soldiers were killed.

Another 13 Egyptian policemen were killed in El Arish when IS terrorists fired a mortar at their checkpoint. Afterwards, the Egyptian Army tracked down the five perpetrators allegedly responsible and killed them.

The deaths yesterday bring to more than 1,300 the number of Egyptian security personnel killed in the Sinai since January 2013.

The events of the day led Egyptian President Sisi to call an emergency meeting of the government’s defense forces. The Director of National Security, Gen. Khaled Akasha said afterward that armed groups in Gaza are flooding the Sinai with weapons to attack Egyptians.

Ironically, the blast from the gas pipeline seems to have uncovered around 50 tunnels between Gaza and Egypt.

Perhaps in a related development, Hamas reported yesterday that another of its tunnels had collapsed near Khan Younis, and that an undetermined number of its people were killed or missing.

–>Barack Obama cavorts with his friends.

U.S. President Barack Obama arrives in Cuba today for meetings with Raul Castro (and, your humble servant is sure that he hopes, with Fidel as well).

A street sign in Havana this morning. Raul and Barack--birds of a feather.

A street sign in Havana this morning proclaiming “Welcome to Cuba.” Raul and Barack–birds of a feather.

But Obama is not making this trip before sending Iranian leader Ali Khamenei who Obama prefers calling “Supreme Leader” his best wishes for a Happy Nowruz (Persian New Year).

In a video addressed to the people of Iran, but not carried on very many stations, Obama told the Iranians that the benefits of the Democratic Party Nuclear Appeasement Treaty with Iran are, for Iranians, “beyond question.”

Obama then waxed metaphorically about Iran joining the global economy through increased trade and investment, and creating jobs and opportunities for Iranians to sell their products around the world.

What he didn’t mention, of course, is how the deal puts the rest of the world–especially those in the Middle East–in ever greater danger because those products that the Iranians are shipping around the world are missiles, weapons, and other armaments.

And they are producing and shipping those weapons with money that Obama, Kerry, and the Democratic Party gave them.
