The News On the Israel Street
The long holiday weekend continues . . .
Because Rosh Hashana was celebrated on Wednesday night, that meant that the second day of Rosh Hashana began on Thursday night, which led into Shabbat last night. So the “holiday” will have run from Wednesday night until sundown tonight.
What have we Israelis been doing with ourselves? Mainly engaging in an eating orgy.
But when not feeding our faces, many Israelis have taken to the national parks and reserves. Some of the most popular this year have been those in the north such as Achziv National Park, the Mejarsa Nature Reserve, Ma’ayan Harod, the Banias Reserve and Horesh Tal. It was estimated that around 75,000 Israelis cavorted in these parks yesterday.
The Tamar gas field temporarily suspends production . . .
Due to an as yet undefined “pipeline mishap”, the Tamar field has halted production of natural gas for the next week. By that time, it is hoped that the pipeline will be repaired.
Despite being relatively small (compared to Leviathan), Tamar, which is located about 50 miles west of Haifa in the Mediterranean, has become the central source of energy for refineries and desalination plants all along the coast.
Until the pipeline is fixed, even the refinery and desalination plant down here in Ashdod must revert to coal and diesel power.
Is the Hamas-PLO agreement already beginning to unravel? . . . again . . .
The ink is barely dry, but yesterday we had senior Hamas leader Abu Marzug declaring that none of the tunnel infrastructure in Gaza and none of the weaponry possessed by Hamas will be discussed with or described to Fatah. Marzuq said that Hamas “will not play with our guarantee against Israeli aggression.”
All of which means that the Fatah-Hamas agreement is just for show. There is no underlying agreement or trust between the two groups. Hamas still looks at Fatah as colluding with Israel.
Speaking of weapons . . .
Our “peaceful-loving” neighbor Iran demonstrated yesterday that it is continuing to trample on a Security Council Resolution designed to halt its production of ballistic missiles.
The Korameshar, the newest ballistic off the production line, was paraded through Tehran as part of “Sacred Defense Week.” The liquid fuel missile can carry multiple warheads which can reach a distance of 2000 kilometers.
Which puts Israel in range.
Saeb Erekat takes his plea public . . .
Now that the outcry against PLO Chief Negotiator Saeb Erekat has made it impossible for him to get a lung transplant in Israel, Erekat appeared before cameras in Washington, D.C. to lament his deteriorating condition.
He had this to say:
Reduces online cialis Pain and Shoulder Dysfunction In 2008, Dr. Appreciate that it Discover More best viagra india is the expression of the battering dynamic that has been in play over the life cycle of an abusive relationship. The second way in which L-citrulline can be biosynthesized is from the oxidation of arginine, a natural find out content levitra 60 mg amino acid. “In recent months there has been a major deterioration in my situation. I need oxygen and have difficulty walking . . . I am proud of every moment in my sixty-two years as a soldier for Palestine. Allah honored me with that. I had the honor of working under Yasser Arafat, and also under Abu Mazen. The most important thing is that we live and, God willing, we will live, and if we die, we will die as soldiers for Palestine.”
Actually no matter how glorious Erekat wants to make his demise, his impending death has nothing to do with his being “a soldier for Palestine” or having served under the arch terrorists Arafat and Abu Mazen.
The simple fact is that Erekat (like Abu Mazen) has chain smoked himself to the verge of death.
We can only hope that no transplant will be forthcoming.
