The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
*Palestinian terrorists from Gaza attacked the border fence in waves all day firing automatic weapons, throwing grenades and Molotovs, and hurling explosives.
All attempts to reach IDF positions failed, though one group of terrorists managed to temporarily breach the fence before being repulsed.
*In the midst of the above attacks at the border, an apparent volunteer Palestinian medic who was running toward the border was allegedly shot by an IDF sniper; she later died.
This medic, Razan Ashraf Najjar, was celebrated with a funeral through downtown Gaza yesterday afternoon and has quickly become the latest Palestinian cause celebre (remember the baby who was supposedly killed by tear gas, but in fact was not). The circumstances of her death remain unknown: was she affiliated with Hamas? was she carrying weapons to the border (as so many other faux medics have)? The IDF is investigating the incident.
*Other Palestinian terrorists in Gaza flew Molotov kites into Israel; a fire at Carmia is still burning at this hour.
*A Palestinian terrorist from Beit Ummar tried to run over soldiers at the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hevron. Twice. In the first attempt the terrorist escaped, in the second attempt, the terrorist was shot and killed.
*Palestinian terrorists attempted to blow up an IDF patrol with a roadside bomb in Hevron. The bomb was defused by IDF sappers before it exploded.
Actions in the UN Security Council last night . . .
The US vetoed the Kuwaiti resolution in the Security Council last night that placed all blame for the Gaza border situation on Israel and that sought to establish an international force to “protect the Palestinians.” All of the other Council members voted for the Resolution or abstained.
A substitute Resolution offered by the U.S. that blamed Hamas for the violence and upheld Israel’s right to self defense only received one vote in support—that of the United States.
Follow up to yesterday’s reportage about the Netanyahus . . .
The absurdity of the lies against the Netanyahus that we reported on yesterday reached new heights (or descended to new depths).

Opponents of the Prime Minister continued to lambaste him for supposedly wanting to wiretap the IDF Chief of Staff and the head of Mossad–even though there is not one scintilla of evidence that he attempted to do so. The head of Shin Bet issued a statement that Netanyahu had never asked him to wiretap anyone.
Meanwhile the ludicrous story of the alleged physical assault by Sara Netanyahu on Eli Gruner shifted and changed during the day. After Gruner flatly denied that any such “assault” took place, television reporters “reported” that Mrs. Netanyahu had actually thrown a pencil at Gruner; this story was changed again later in the day to say that Sara had “grasped” a pencil threateningly while Gruner was in the room.
Can you believe any of this?
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Shifting Sands In Southern Syria
It was widely reported yesterday that Israel and Russia have agreed on the withdrawal of Iranian forces (including Hezbollah) from southern Syria.
According to the reports, Iranian forces will immediately withdraw to a line 5 kilometers from the Israeli border to be followed shortly by a further withdrawal to 20 kilometers from the border. This is supposedly to be followed by a gradual withdrawal to a line 60 kilometers from the border.
Further elements of the agreement as reported are:
1. Israel will accept Assad’s rule if Iran and its proxies are removed from Syrian territory.
2. Russia understands that Israel will have to act to remove the Iranians if they do not withdraw.
Already, we see today that even though some Hezbollah and Iranian forces appear to be withdrawing, Assad is continuing to insist that there are no Iranians in Syria.
What is more, Hezbollah forces in the Mt. Hermon area have now donned the uniforms of the Syrian Army and replaced Syrian army units in the area.
The sands in southern Syria are shifting, but we are reminded of the old adage: the more things change the more they stay the same.
