The Missile Attacks Last Night: “We feel like ducks on a shooting range.”

Disastrous Video of the Day

Take 40 seconds and look at this video taken yesterday at Be’eri that shows the disastrous effect of a Molotov kite which burned 75% of the Nature Reserve.

The IDF admitted last night that every effort it has made to stop the kites from entering Israel has failed and that it will now be using “bicyclists” to try to spot and put out fires as soon as the kites “land.”

Nauseating Quote of the Day

“We have to take into account that some of the cement will go there and some of the cement will go to build houses, there is nothing to do.”

Eshkol Regional Council head Gadi Yarkoni commenting on Israel Radio yesterday

Yarkoni was talking about how “humanitarian concrete” being trucked into Gaza is used to build Hamas tunnels.

Doesn’t this sickeningly sum up the attitude of “surrender” that seems to pervade the statements and actions of Israeli leaders on the Gaza border these days?

“There is nothing to do?” Of course, there is something we can do; we could stop the shipments of concrete into Gaza immediately–if only our craven politicians had the will to do so.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Aside from the mortar and missile attacks last night (see Today’s Blog), Palestinian terrorists:

*attacked IDF forces in the Al-Aida Palestinian settlement near Rachel’s Tomb outside Bethlehem.

*attacked Israelis with “rocks” and Molotovs at Al-Khader, on the Gush Etzion Road, at the Azzun Junction, near Yitzhar, at Avishar, Ariel, on the Abud Bypass road, and at a myriad of other places.

The extent of illegal EU building in Israel . . .

Remember how the French government castigated Israel two days ago for approving construction in Area C of Judea and Samaria as well as in the E1 area near Ma’ale Adumim.

At the time, your humble servant pointed out how the European Union has been attempting to transfer Palestinians from Areas A and B to Area C by illegally building new homes for them.

Today, we found out that European Union has spent 42 million Euros ($49 million dollars) over the last 5 years to brazenly fund this illegal construction. Why do we say “brazenly”? Because every building the European Union constructs is adorned with the flag of the EU.

The Kineret continues to dry up . . .

The level of the Kineret (aka “the Sea of Galilee”) dropped by another 10 centimeters in May despite heavy rains in the area.

It is now half a meter below the “lower red line”–a secondary red line that was created after the level of the lake permanently went below the “original” red line.

Unless desalinated water begins being pumped into the Kineret and/or water totally ceases being pumped out to Jordanian farmers, the Kineret will quickly go the way of so many other water resources in the Middle East.

For example, it was reported yesterday that for the first time in more than a hundred years, the Tigris River in Iraq has completely dried up in some places.

In case you missed the “breaking news” ticker above, it was a rough night for the 250,000 Israelis living on the Gaza border. Incoming missile sirens sounded off and on during five attacks between 7:49 pm and 3:15 am.

As Israeli families huddled in their bomb shelters, 13 missiles and mortars were fired at southern Israel–three of which were shot down by Iron Dome interceptors.

What did the IDF do in response?

Nothing.

Except bomb empty buildings and empty sand dunes. And we made sure that the buildings and sand dunes were empty before we bombed them.

A remarkable report was broadcast today by an Israeli-Arab reporter positioned on the border. Suleiman al-Shafi, a jounalist for i24 news, said this:

“Last night, before the IDF attacked the positions of Hamas, it opened a huge spotlight on the positions, flickered the light, gave them five minutes to escape, and then hit.”

So now we know why no terrorists are ever killed in the faux bombing runs. We warn the terrorists in advance.

Just like the Israel police in Jerusalem collude with the Islamic Wakf on the Temple Mount, so does the IDF collude with Hamas on the Gaza border.

It is breathtakingly outrageous.

And stupefying to the residents of southern Israel some of whom were interviewed this morning. Here are some representative comments from three of them:

“We woke up in the morning after a night of sirens. I debated whether to wake the children or just let them sleep. How can they go to school today?”

And:

“We feel like ducks on a shooting range. [The government says] we have to focus on the northern border; are we worth less?”

And the third:

“We do not trust our neighbors in Gaza; but we also do not trust the leadership of our own country.”

One final word from your humble servant today:

Do you remember that it was just 48 hours ago that PM Netanyahu, sitting comfortably in Jerusalem, adamantly declared that if there were any more missiles and mortars fired, “the terrorists in Gaza would pay a heavy price”?

And that Israel will not return to a situation in which there is a constant “drizzle” of missiles and mortars hitting southern Israel?

It was all just unmitigated horse manure.

The terrorists continue to rain down missiles and mortars on the second-class citizens of southern Israel because they know that they will pay no price.
