UNRWA: Perpetuating Palestinian Infantilism in Gaza

Quote of the Day:

“The lack of response by the IDF [to terrorism in Gaza] is because of Israel’s negotiations to reach a political arrangement in Gaza.”

Gilad Erdan, Israel’s Minister of Public Security and Strategic Affairs

Inasmuch as southern Israel has no public security and the government has no strategy, we obviously should not give too much credence to anything Erdan has to say.

Nevertheless, his statement speaks volumes because it does indicate what we have been writing on this blog all along. Namely, that our government is perfectly willing to see southern Israel burned to the ground and the residents of southern Israel living in bomb shelters all in the name of “political” considerations.

It is an absolutely pathetic situation.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

On the Gaza border:

**Yesterday was the worst “fire” day in the last month. 28 large fires and an untold number of smaller ones were set by hundreds of incendiary kites and balloons launched by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza. Some of the devices reached down into central Negev–south of Beersheva.

One balloon even landed on top of a car in the Eshkol Region and set it ablaze.

More dunams were scorched. More agricultural fields and nature preserves were destroyed. And once again, the IDF did  nothing to stop the onslaught.

Well, almost nothing.

The IDF General Command sent a senior officer to meet with a group of leaders of southern communities and told them to stop complaining about fact that the IDF isn’t doing anything.

Can you believe this?

**Meanwhile, Kobi Heller, the commander of the southern brigade, announced yesterday that the IDF has discovered “more tunnels” leading from Gaza into Israel.

Heller said that the tunnels would be destroyed at the “appropriate time.”

Really? Why not destroy them now?

In Judea and Samaria:

**A Border Police officer was wounded when hit by a Molotov thrown by Palestinian terrorists in Deheishe.

**Israeli motorists were attacked with “rocks” and Molotovs thrown by Palestinian terrorists at al-Mu’ayyir, Adam, throughout Gush Etzion, near Kiryat Arba, Karmei Tzur, Tekoa, and a myriad of other places.

What Hebrew language newspapers do Israelis read everyday? . . .

A typical front page of Israel's leading newspaper, Israel Hayom. Very supportive of Netanyahu, this particular page appeared when Netanyahu formed the current government.

A typical front page of Israel’s leading newspaper, Israel Hayom. Very supportive of Netanyahu, this particular page appeared when Netanyahu formed the current government.

Not surprisingly, newspaper readership statistics from January through June of this year closely replicate the political situation here in Israel–even to the point of reflecting the political composition of the Knesset*.

Israel Hayom (Israel Today): 29.8%

Israel Hayom presents news from the perspective of the “right”. It is owned and operated by Sheldon Adelson. It is given out for free at train stations, malls, etc.

Yedioth Ahronot: 27.3%

Yedioth Ahronot presents news from the perspective of the “left.” Published by Noni Mozes, it has carried out a decade long attack on the Netanyahus. It is given out for free at train stations, malls, etc.

Globes: 5.6%

Globes presents news from an economic perspective. It is largely apolitical, but tends to be read by Israelis on the “right.”

Maariv: 4.8%

Maariv presents news from the perspective of the “far left.” It used to be one of the two major papers in Israel.

Haaretz: 4.4%

Ha’aretz also presents news from a “far left” perspective. Considered the “New York Times” of Israeli newspapers, its readership has dramatically declined in recent years–but it remains the newspaper that international entities like to quote the most (because they are “far left” also).

*Of course, the members of the orthodox parties in the Knesset don’t read any of the above papers, nor do Israeli-Arab members of the Knesset.

Interesting figures on the scale of adoption here in Israel . . .

With the LGBT fight over surrogacy and adoption laws, the latest statistics concerning adoption are revealing:

72 children were adopted in Israel in 2017.

76 children were adopted in 2016.

115 children were adopted in 2015.

121 children were adopted in 2014.

122 children were adopted in 2013.

The total number of people who live in Israel and were adopted is 19,500.

The above figures refer to people who had no “blood” relationship with the adopting parents.

As you can see, the number of adoptees has never been high here, but even that small number has been decreasing for reasons that your humble servant can only guess.

TODAY’S BLOG:

UNRWA: Perpetuating Palestinian Infantilism in Gaza

What do they teach in UNRWA English classes? Hatred of Israel, Palestinian victimhood, and dependency on UNRWA.

What do they teach in UNRWA English classes? Hatred of Israel, Palestinian victimhood, and dependency on UNRWA.

As you all know, the abominable UNRWA (The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) has made a major push in recent weeks for money in recent weeks in the wake of the decision of the Trump Administration and the U.S. Congress to cut its funding.

We have long criticized UNRWA on israelstreet because it not only incites Palestinians against Israel but also it has turned Palestinian Gazans into infants who live off the dole of foreign donors.

Just yesterday, UNRWA declared for the ten thousandth time that the “humanitarian” situation in Gaza has become dire. In doing so, it said that approximately 50% of the Palestinians in Gaza depend on UNRWA for handouts.

Think about that for a moment.

50%.

Whereas UNRWA would like for us to take that percentage and empty our pocketbooks, we here at israelstreet think that it is an astonishing indictment of UNRWA which has plunged Palestinian Gaza into perpetual victimhood.

That is why we look at what is happening today and applaud. 100 UNRWA workers were laid off this morning, and UNRWA bemoaned the fact that hundreds more will be laid off in the near future.

None of these employees–who exist for no other reason than to perpetuate their own jobs–should be laid off; they should be fired. UNRWA should be put out of business, and congratulations to the Americans for taking the first steps to do so.
