Photo of the Day:
Israeli archaeologists working at Beit Guvrin-Maresha National Park in southern Israel have discovered a cave containing 1020 bullae (stamps used to seal letters), leading to speculation that a letter archive may also be at the site though some of the bullae probably sealed papyrus letters which have long since disintegrated. The bullae date to the second and third century BCE (about 2200 years ago).
The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
**More than 10,000 Palestinians showed up at the Gaza border yesterday for another day of attacking Israeli soldiers with grenades, gunfire, and homemade IEDs.
Fortunately, no Israelis were wounded.
**More incendiary balloons were launched into southern Israel setting fires at Kibbutz Be’eri and other locations.
Waking up in the morning . . .
As we wrote the other day on israelstreet, the PLO must hate waking up in the morning these days. Every day seems to bring more sanctions, restrictions, and withdrawals of funding for Palestinian terror organizations.
The last 24 hours have been no different:
**The U.S. has announced that it will no longer fund programs to strengthen Palestinian-Israeli relations. The $10 million dollars that was spent on these worthless programs which targeted young people will instead be spent on programs involving Israeli Jews and non-Jews.
**Believe it or not, Belgium has announced that it is ending all funding for the Palestinian Education Ministry. The reason? The Belgians have suddenly discovered that most of the money they were donating was being used to glorify terrorists–especially terrorists who killed Israelis.
**Australia has declared that it is ending the $21,000,000 it donates annually to Union Aid Abroad–APHEDA, an Australian organization based in Ramallah disguised as a charity that is actually run by a terrorist member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
What are you doing for Yom Kippur? . . .
If you want a different experience, why don’t you go to Hevron and join thousands of other Israelis and people from around the world who fast at the Tomb of the Patriarchs?
As always, the welcoming Hevron-Kiryat Arba community will be hosting people in their homes; you merely need to reserve your space by registering at this link:

Threaten and bluster . . .
A day without threats in this area of the world is impossible. From morning until night there are threats flying in all directions. Yesterday for example:
**The Iranian Foreign Minister threatened that if the European Union does not thwart U.S. sanctions on Iran, it will increase uraniam enrichment.
—What a joke. This comes a day after Iran announced that it has completed an advanced centrifuge facility for enriching uranium.
**The Gaza Health Ministry threatened yesterday that if the fuel crisis is not solved within a week, Shifa Hospital will cease operations.
—What a joke. In the first place, Hamas headquarters is in a bunker under the hospital; in the second, do you have any idea how many times the Palestinians have played on world sympathy by threatening to close Shifa?
**Hamas threatened yesterday that if the siege of the Palestinian state of Gaza is not lifted in seven days, it will resume attacks on Israel.
—What a joke. Hamas has never stopped attacking Israel, and to think that Israel will open the floodgates into and out of Gaza this week is absurd.
**Israeli Public Safety Minister Erdan threatened yesterday that “If Hamas starts attacking Israel again, we will have to go back to targeted assassinations of Hamas leaders.”
—What a joke. This is the standard threat that is pulled out of the threat drawer every week or so. To repeat Hamas has never stopped attacking the border fence or sending incendiary balloons and kites into southern Israel.
TODAY’S BLOG:
Israeli Police and Judiciary Lunacy On Display Again
Less than a week after the incredible decision of the police that Hava Roizen was not intentionally run over and killed in a bulldozer attack at Havat Gilad, the Israeli police struck again yesterday.
This time they announced that the two Palestinians who set the huge fire at Einot Tzukim did not do so out of “nationalist motives.”
At a hearing in the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court, a police representative lamented that the police cannot figure out why the two Palestinians set the fire.
Say what?
To make matters worse, Judge Chavi Toker blathered this nonsense:
“The two suspects were detained on suspicion of carrying out an arson attack in the purpose of destroying a nature site. They are suspected of setting the nature reserve on fire out of malice, killing small wild animals, and destroying some 300 Tamarisk trees and about 10 Palm trees. The investigation findings support a probable cause against the suspects. The findings . . . support the suspicion that the arson was deliberate.”
Judge Toker also noted that both of the Palestinians have criminal records, but that they were “young” (23 and 19). Because of their youth, she ordered that they be held for only five days while the police try to figure out why they did it.
Can you believe this?
Don’t you just want to scream “What in the world is going on?”
Your humble servant can’t believe it, and is going to scream that right now.
