Quote of the Day:
“[Former PM] Olmert, who offered [PLO Chairman] Abbas the Western Wall, has now turned into his faithful mouthpiece. In the U.S. and many Arab countries, they understand that Abbas is the true obstacle to peace, and that the reason for his extreme demands is not peace but rather the elimination of the State of Israel.”
A senior Likud member speaking yesterday
In Olmert’s case as well as that of equally slimy former PM Ehud Barak, the goal is a simple one–bring down the government of PM Netanyahu in any way possible.
What is particularly reprehensible about convicted felon Olmert is how he continues to slime his way around the globe supporting those whose only goal is the elimination of Israel.
Picture of the Day:
If you guessed Gal Gadot, you would be correct. Israel’s most famous actress (aka Wonder Woman) has been chosen to kick off the 30th season of The Simpsons. The above picture is how she will appear in the program.
It must be said that Gadot is a wonderful anomaly. She is an unabashed defender of Israel who never misses an opportunity to support her country–which is much more than can be said for most Israelis in her profession.
The News On The Israeli Street
Palestinian terrorism in the last 24 hours . . .
At 3:35 am this morning, incoming missile alarms sounded for Zone 237 in the vicinity of the Kerem Shalom Crossing. As every reader of israelstreet knows, the first words afterwards out of IDF spokesman’s mouth were, as always, “false alarm.”
Just like the IDF claims every day that there are no fires in the Gaza border communities caused by incendiary balloons launched by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza.
Yesterday there were 9. The worst hit places were Alumim (2), Be’eri, Sdot Negev, Netivot, and Kissufim.
Do you remember how it was just a month ago that Non-Defense Minister Lieberman said that the crossings into Gaza were being opened because there were no more fires and no more missiles?
And because all was quiet on the Gaza border—where yesterday numerous pitched battles were fought between IDF forces and Palestinian terrorists? One particular video that went viral yesterday featured a group of Palestinians clipping their way through the border fence and then waltzing around in Israel without a care in the world.
The simple fact is that Israel has lost all deterrence on the Gaza border.
The Europeans once again pledge to fund PLO terrorism . .
This time in the form of Ireland. Yesterday, PLO foreign minister and beggar in chief Riad al-Maliki announced in Ireland that “the Irish government has committed to transferring $ 7 million to PA institutions.”
What institutions you may ask? Primarily the institutions that fund Palestinian terrorists who murder Israelis and institutions that feather the pockets of Mahmoud Abbas and his PLO cronies.
The death toll has reached 25 . . .
In Ahvaz Iran where a parade of Iranian Revolutionary Guards was set upon by 4 men firing machine guns yesterday. 12 of the dead were Revolutionary Guards.
This morning has the Iranians crazily casting blame wherever they can cast it.
First, (yawn) on the list were the United States and Israel; second were two unnamed Arab states in the Gulf (read Saudi Arabia and the UAE); third were the countries of the Netherlands, Denmark, and the United Kingdom–whose ambassadors were summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry this morning.
However, it was Islamic State this morning that took responsibility for the attack.
Still more on the downing of the Russian plane . . .
The Russians are due to release the results of their own investigation this morning into how their plane was shot down during the recent Israeli raid on Hezbollah weapons storehouses in Latakia, Syria.
Interestingly, Russian expert Alexander Goltz pointed out yesterday that the shootdown was in no way surprising: “After every attack, the Syrians shoot their anti-aircraft missiles indiscriminately and wait for the self-detonation of the missiles and then present them as intercepting enemy missiles.”
According to Goltz, one of the “indiscriminate missiles” hit the Russian plane.
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Palestinian Refugee Myth Continues To Implode
In a startling move yesterday, Saudi Arabia announced that it will no longer let Palestinians with temporary Jordanian passports enter the country. Considering the number of Palestinians who live and work in Saudi Arabia and the number who take the haj to Mecca each year, this is a major declaration.
How many Palestinians have these temporary Jordanian passports? Around 600,000–living primarily in Jordan, Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria, and in neighborhoods in eastern Jerusalem (this is 600,000 passport holders out of a total Palestinian population in these places of an estimated 4.3 million).
The temporary 5-year Jordanian passport has been a document issued by the Civil Status and Passport Department in Amman. Having the passport provided a way for “Palestinians” to travel without having to get a passport from the PLO.
With the new decree issued in Riyadh, Palestinians who want to travel to Saudi Arabia will either have to obtain a permanent passport from Jordan, or obtain a passport from the PLO’s Palestinian Authority.
In either case, to do so will obviously change their legal status.
In the case of obtaining a permanent Jordanian passport, it would mean that the 2.2 million “Palestinians” living in Jordan would no longer be able to fraudulently call themselves “refugees.” Of course, it is highly debatable that the Jordanian government would ever agree to these 2.2 million ever becoming full Jordanian citizens.
In regard to the Palestinians living in eastern Jerusalem, they fear that obtaining a PLO passport will jeopardize their right to live in Jerusalem because it would supplant the city residency documents that allow them to work, move around, and obtain benefits from the Israeli government. No longer able to cry that they are “stateless refugees”, they would be official residents of the “Palestinian state” that de facto exists in Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria–and therefore subject to deportation.
The bottom line is that everyone knows that the Palestinian refugee myth is a farcical canard; the good news is that it has begun to implode and will continue to do so if other countries follow the laudatory lead of Saudi Arabia.
