Netanyahu’s “Speech” To Israelis Last Night

Quote of the Day:

“Dozens of children here vomit during alarms.”

An anonymous woman living in the South, speaking on the radio about the effect of hundreds of alarms being sounded during the 25-hour war a week ago.

Does the government care if our children in the South are vomiting or that an estimated 75% of them suffer from PTSD?  Obviously not.

Protests continue in the South against the government’s inaction during the 25-hour mini-war last week and against the ceasefire the government cowardly agreed to.

The News on the Israeli Street

“Operational reasons” . . .

What seems to have been forgotten in the wake of the 25-hour war a week ago is that this was the 10th outburst of missile fire in the last 8 months. In the previous outbursts, anywhere from 25 to 90 missiles were fired at a time, but in the entire 8 months more than 1200 missiles and mortars were fired at Israel.

The pusillanimous members of Netanyahu’s cabinet continue making the rounds dissembling to whoever will listen why the government did not act decisively last week. Yesterday it was Transportation Minister Israel Katz’s turn on Army Radio:

“We are approaching a war of no choice against Hamas in Gaza. The reason we did not do this last week was for operational reasons.”

“Operational reasons” is the new government jargon to obfuscate cowardice in the face of Hamas, the European Union, Jordan, and the international community.

Just think about the last few months:

Because of operational reasons, we are not razing Khan Al Ahmar.

Because of operational reasons, we are not deporting illegal infiltrators.

Because of operational reasons, we cannot allow too many Jews on the Temple Mount.

Because of operational reasons, we cannot build new homes for Jews in Judea and Samaria.

Because of operational reasons . . . you get the idea.

Thank you Kentucky! . . .

Yesterday, Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin signed into law a ban on state contracts to companies participating in campaigns to boycott Israel.

Governor Bevin signing the anti-BDS law.

Governor Bevin signing the anti-BDS law.

In doing so, Kentucky joined more than 25 other states which have done the same.

Kolakevod Kentucky!

What’s in a name? . . .

The Israeli viper: Israel's national snake.

The Israeli viper: Israel’s national snake.

Several months ago, Israel’s Nature and Parks Authority named the Israeli viper Israel’s national snake.

This week, a Palestinian delegation at the U.N. Conference on Biological Diversity being held in Sharm al-Sheikh Egypt is claiming that the use of the term “Israeli” viper is cultural appropriation and in contravention of  the 1992 Convention on Biological Diversity, which gives countries sovereign rights over their biological resources.

The Palestinian argument is that the viper is a former Palestinian who received its name from the British before Israel was established.

Your humble servant realizes that you dear readers are all laughing at this point, but this is the kind of nonsense that Israel has to deal with all the time.

More than that, I wonder what the Jews who have lived here for the last 3300+ years call the snake or how about the Jebusites before them or the people living in the Chalcolithic period before that?

TODAY’S BLOG:

Netanyahu’s “Speech” To Israelis Last Night

It was vintage Netanyahu. First, he let it be known hours beforehand that he would make an address to the nation on television at 8:00 pm. Next, he let the media go wild with speculation about the fact that he was about to declare early elections on March 26.

Then, shortly after 8:00, he had himself filmed walking resolutely across the garden next to the broadcast studio and striding up to the podium.

Having set the proverbial stage, he then dashed media and opposition hopes. He began by recounting all of his meritorious service to the country of Israel from the time he first enlisted to his being wounded in battle. He talked about how he had lost a brother to terrorists, and how he had saved the country as Finance Minister even if it meant that he had lost his job.

He went on and on about himself leading up to last week’s war in regard to which he once again bemoaned the fact that he cannot release to the public the reason he chose not to attack Hamas full force. Then, he proclaimed that he knows “exactly what to do to take care of Hamas”, and that he will take that action “at the right time.” He then appended that for the moment no one else is going to be defense minister but him.

The entire speech can be summed up in one sentence: “Because of my background, I am Mr. Security, and no one can question me because I know more about the overall situation than anyone else.”

In previous circumstances, a speech like this might have resonated with the public, but no longer.

Immediately afterwards, there were many harsh reactions–particularly from people here in the South. Here is one from an anonymous contributor on social media:

“The humiliation of the last eight months cannot be forgotten. None of the Likud ministers approached Bibi and asked him why we  were not defending the south.

I voted for Likud/Bibi, but not anymore!!! He humiliated an entire country.

He appointed appointed an IDF chief of staff who carefully selects his general staff according to their political ideology–a bunch of cowards who do not want to fight . . .

No shell or bullet can be fired anymore or was fired last week without the approval of a legal adviser from the terrible Military Advocate General’s Office. . .

The government no longer controls the country. Instead, it is run by The High Court of Justice, the failed IDF General Staff,  and the New Israel Fund.

No more Likud! No more Bibi !!!

Warm regards from residents of the South.

Such are sentiments of the people in the South these days. PM Netanyahu has lost his most loyal supporters.
