Today’s Big Reveal On The Northern Border

The big news this morning is the “big reveal”.

For some three weeks, we have been waiting patiently here in Israel to hear what it was that was so urgent that our so-called Security Cabinet and the IDF let Hamas and Islamic Jihad get away with firing more than 500 missiles and mortars at our communities along the Gaza border.

From the very moment that a “ceasefire” to that mini Hamas war was accepted by Israel, PM Netanyahu has been going around telling anyone who will listen that there were security issues that he was unable to share with the rest of us. Those security issues, we were told, forced the government to once again back off and not attack Hamas and Islamic Jihad full force and to give in to blackmail.

Well this morning we have the answer, and what a sorry answer it is.

The big reveal is that the IDF has undertaken “Operation Northern Shield” whose main goal is neutralizing of Hezbollah tunnels running into Israel. It is estimated that the operation will take a few weeks.  Immediately upon announcement of Operation Northern Shield, everyone in the Security Cabinet has rushed to whatever podium they could find to talk about how ferreting out these tunnels is “vitally important.”

Say what?

First some context.

Think back to our southern border for a moment. We have known about Hamas tunnels for over a decade from the time citizens along the border first began reporting (to deaf government ears) how they could hear digging under their communities. Eventually we attacked these tunnels in 2014, and the IDF assured us that most if not all of them were destroyed.
This is the reason; if you want to be an expert and will be easily able viagra without prescriptions to attempt the written examination organized by the Department. When you practice repeating the word YES, just make sure your body FEELS it each time. order viagra levitra Passionate yet romantic one that makes levitra samples life really worthwhile. With a lot of online herbal stores and local health stores that carry a variety of herbal viagra 25 mg http://www.offscriptband.com/store/ vitamins, it is simple to find herbs to meet your needs.

But of course they were not. With every new outbreak of violence the IDF discovers more Hamas tunnels–one as recently as three weeks ago. Despite all of our best technology and efforts, we haven’t found them all, and who knows how many more tunnels are waiting to be found?

Back to the north.

Citizens in the north have also been reporting digging sounds for almost a decade now. More than this, residents of Metulla and other border towns have regularly reported seeing Hezbollah troops going into and emerging from various holes in the ground for years. The IDF itself has had a special unit monitoring Hezbollah tunnels since 2014.*

So now, suddenly, the tunnel threat is critical?

Again, to believe our Security Cabinet members, the answer is yes. After all, Hezbollah leader Nasrallah has declared repeatedly that Hezbollah troops will enter Israel in the next war and take land all the way down to the Kineret.

However, we would behoove everyone to remember that the issue is not tunnels. The clear and present danger is missiles. More than 100,000 of them pointed at every Israeli asset and population center on the map. Apparently these missiles were the subject of PM Netanyahu’s discussion U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo this morning along with the fact that the Iranians and Hezbollah are constructing guided missile factories in Lebanon.

So back to our original point.

In your humble servant’s opinion, the Hezbollah tunnels were no reason not to carry out an all-out attack on Hamas and Islamic Jihad (unless a more dangerous point is true, namely that the IDF cannot deal with two fronts). For anyone to suggest otherwise is to dissemble.

More than this, for anyone to suggest that the Hezbollah tunnel threat can be eliminated in a few days or weeks is delusional. There must be hundreds if not thousands of cross-border tunnels from Lebanon into Israel.

Finally, we come back to the world of Benjamin Netanyahu and his minions in which the lives of people in the South are not of the same value as the lives of Israelis in Tel Aviv and along the northern border.

No amount of dissembling from the government will change that fact.

*It should come as no surprise that the IDF announced this afternoon that a Hezbollah tunnel was found running from under a house in Kafr Kela in southern Lebanon into Israel near Metulla. The citizens of Metulla have undoubtedly guessed its existence for years–and the IDF has known about it for who knows how long.
