Absurd Statement Of The Day:

“The IDF knows about most of Hezbollah’s tunnels, and our knowledge of the overall Hezbollah project is good, even very good. We can have surprises, but the likelihood is low. We know quite well the scope of the project and its expanse. We estimate the operation will continue for weeks.”

A senior IDF officer speaking off the record yesterday to reporters

If all of this sounds familiar, it should. It is precisely what the IDF crowed about Hamas tunnels running out of Gaza way back when. Ten years later all of the Hamas tunnels have still not been found. A low likelihood of surprises? Continue for weeks?

Who is kidding whom?

Absurd Announcement Of The Day:

The United Nations so-called peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, UNIFIL (which has actually become an arm of Hezbollah) announced yesterday that it will deploy a technical team to “ascertain facts regarding Israel’s operation to expose Hezbollah tunnels along the Lebanon border.”

The ridiculous absurdity is that they won’t have far to go:

As you can see, there is a UNIFIL post approximately 50 meters from the Hezbollah tunnel.

The News On The Israeli Street

Palestinian terrorism in Judea and Samaria . . .

Palestinian terrorists attacked Israelis throughout the region yesterday. On Road 65 near Ar’ara, a policeman was wounded by three terrorists who escaped. On Road 437, a young girl was wounded by a “rock” that was thrown at her parents’ car. Near Adam, a 9-month-old baby was wounded by shattered glass caused when Palestinian terrorists attacked this bus:

Palestinian terrorists also attacked Israelis with Molotovs and “rocks” at Nili, beside Kiryat Arba, Ofarim, the Postal Junction, Luban a-Sharqiya, the Tunnels Checkpoint,  Beit Anun, Ras Karkar, and the X Junction.

Another Palestinian attack occurred near Gush Shilo. A group of community workers were out farming their fields when they were set upon by terrorists throwing “rocks”. If you can believe this, when Border Guards and an Army unit arrived, they arrested one our community members because he picked up a “rock” that was thrown at him–and threw it back at the terrorists. By the way, none of the Palestinian terrorists were captured.

Once more to the Hezbollah tunnels . . .

A second tunnel was revealed yesterday afternoon–this one leading to Metulla. In fact, part of Hezbollah’s grand plan was to infiltrate Hezbollah terrorists into Metulla, capture it, and cut it off from the rest of Israel.

How terrified is Israel of Hezbollah?

According to various sources, Israel informed Hezbollah in advance that it was going to eliminate its tunnels into Israel–the same pathetic mode of operation the IDF uses in Gaza where it informs Hamas where it is going to attack before the IDF attacks.

How terrified is Lebanon and Hezbollah of Israel?

News reports have Beirut in a near-panic mode today as Lebanon awaits Israeli actions against Hezbollah. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has apparently been moved to a back-up bunker (or been whisked away to Tehran).

How pathetic are the Palestinians?

The Palestinian twitter page “Qalandiya Media” featured a story yesterday about how a Palestinian man was trying to rush his choking son to a hospital. According to the Palestinians, the man was caught in a traffic jam at the Qalandiya checkpoint, picked up his young son in his arms, and rushed toward Israeli soldiers asking for help. According to the Palestinians, the soldiers then opened fire on the man and his boy.

However, a video of the event shows what really happened. The man did get out of his car with his son in his arms. Then, an IDF soldier walked up to the man, came to his aid, and got them into another car to take them to a hospital as quickly as possible. You can watch it yourself below:

TODAY’S BLOG:

The Sheer Unbridled Pettiness of Israeli Politics

Major thunderstorms are now sweeping across the coast into Israel flooding streets and roads; Hezbollah is moving missiles from positions in Syria to be closer to the Israeli border; women across the country are continuing their demonstrations against rampant domestic abuse; Hamas is gearing up for another Friday attack on the border fence, and what is the main talk on Israeli media this morning?

A battle between Naftali Bennett and Benjamin Netanyahu about who insulted whose wife first.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Last night, on Israel’s Channel 2, the head of Walla!, Shaul Berkowitz, was asked to provide information to the Israeli public that he had already provided to police in the Case 4000 investigation about how Netanyahu had tried to get favorable media attention on Walla! and tried to get negative publicity about others.

Berkowitz then said that PM Netanyahu had once called him on the phone to ask him to run a news article attacking Bennett’s wife, Gilat, because she had worked as a chef at various non-kosher restaurants in New York in her younger days. Berkowitz said that he had refused to authorize such an article.

At this point, you are probably asking yourself, dear reader, so what? So what if Gilat Bennett worked as a chef in a non-kosher restaurant? Actually, it is an even bigger “so what” than you can imagine. Gilat Bennett was secular when she met her future husband, but after their marriage she became decidedly more religious. Netanyahu apparently thought it would hurt Bennett if his religious base found out about her previous secular employment.

Can you believe this pettiness?

So after the Channel 2 revelation last night, Naftali Bennett went on the attack calling Netanyahu despicable and demanding that he apologize to Gilat.

In response this morning, numerous Netanyahu minions in his Likud party have attacked Bennett claiming that Bennett regularly insulted Sarah Netanyahu after he left Netanyahu’s employment before Netanyahu became prime minister back in 2009.

Petty, petty, petty, and still more petty. Such is the current state of politics in Israel.
