The News On The Israeli Street

The cost of living in Israel . . .

Israelis do not need to be told that the cost of living in the country is high–outrageously high. Buying a car, eating out at a restaurant, going to the supermarket: activities like these are incredibly expensive.

Yesterday there was confirmation of this as the annual “Spectator Index” was published revealing the countries in the world with the highest cost of living. The first 15 in order were: Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, Bahamas, Luxembourg, Japan, Denmark, Hong Kong, South Korea, Ireland, France, Netherlands, Israel, Belgium, and Finland.

For purposes of comparison, the U.S. is 20, Germany 23, the UK 24, China 77, Russia 88, and Egypt 114.

Why is the cost of everything so high in Israel? There are many reasons, but perhaps the most basic reason is that a large portion of the economy is controlled by 15 families–all of whom control monopolies which keep costs artificially high.

Speaking of money woes . . .

It would appear that so much international money has been stolen by Hamas leaders and secreted away in foreign bank accounts that the organization finds itself in the midst of an economic crisis.

Not even the $15 million dollars blackmail payments from Qatar are enough to alleviate the situation which is so far playing itself out in the form of Hamas cutting funds to its military and political wings.

On Monday, Hamas announced that it was closing the Al-Quds television station offices in Gaza. This follows the closure of its Al-Quds station in Beirut and in Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria. Last month, Hamas closed the Islamic University television channel in Gaza City.

Palestinian terror in Judea and Samaria yesterday . . .

As on every day, there were more than 25 Molotov and “rocks” attacks against Israelis at all of the usual places and some new ones including: Luban A-Sharqiya, near Beitar, the Zit Junction, Hawara, north of the Hashmonaim Checkpoint, Kedumim, along Road 446, Hizma, Tekoa, Sinjil, and Beit Haggai in Hevron.

We want Gantz! We want Gantz! . . .

Who wants Gantz?

Believe it or not, the Iranian government actually operates a Hebrew language radio station called Kol David which sends propaganda throughout the Middle East.

In yesterday’s program, the commentators called for “a revolution” in the upcoming Israeli election–a revolution to be led by leftist candidate Benny Gantz.

Isn’t it amazing that the Iranians would support the election of a general who utterly failed in the last war with Gaza in 2014?  Of course not.

More missiles to Lebanon . . .

But not from where you might think.

We all know by now that Iran is sending tons of weapons into Lebanon at every opportunity–weapons that its proxy Hezbollah will use in the next war with Israel.

There is absolutely no doubt about this.

We all know that the Lebanese Army and Hezbollah are inextricably linked. We see it everyday in southern Lebanon where the Lebanese Army and Hezbollah work in tandem to weaponize the area so that it can be used in the next war with Israel. It is not uncommon to see Lebanese soldiers waving Hezbollah flags.

There is absolutely no doubt about this.

So what happened today?

The United States Air Force delivered $16 million dollars worth of laser-guided missiles to the Lebanese Army. This is just the latest in $2.3 billion dollars worth of military aid that the U.S. has provided the Lebanese Army since 2005.

$16 million dollars worth of laser-guided missiles delivered.

“Delivered”. . . not “sold” . . .

How will the missiles be used? They will be used as attack weapons on a fleet of A-29 Super Tucano Aircraft already “delivered” to Lebanon.

Against whom might these missiles be used? Turkey or Syria? Of course not.

Every one of the missiles sold yesterday–as with all of the other military armaments sold over the years will be used in the next war with Israel.

There is absolutely no doubt about this.
