The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
In Judea and Samaria:
Anabta, Al-Aruv, Amos, Deir Nizam, Al-Khader, Neve Tzuf, Tekoa, Ofra, Urif, and Hevron: these were ten of some 30 places at which Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli men, women, and children with “rocks”, Molotovs, and IEDs.
On the Gaza border:
We should never forget that our soldiers along the border are being attacked 24 hours a day by Palestinian terrorists who throw Molotovs, grenades, IEDs, and other explosive devices.
Last night, a chayal boded “lone soldier” from the United States was badly wounded when a grenade was hurled at an IDF position by a Palestinian terrorist. Yoad Zeguri was hit in the neck by shrapnel; he is currently in critical but stable condition, and is in a medically induced coma. Yoad’s parents are en route to Israel. Pray for his recovery!
Netanyahu caves in to terrorism again . . .
It is not enough that PM Netanyahu has signed off on the regular Qatari blackmail payments to Hamas. This morning, in a decision that defies comprehension, the Netanyahu government decided to only cut some 550 million shekels from its payment to the PLO.
It was supposed to cut 1.237 billion shekels—687 million more shekels.
To state this in different words: Israel collects tax monies from Palestinians and import duties from goods coming into the country destined for Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria. In the past, it has turned over this money to the PLO. However, according to a law that passed the Knesset in July of last year, the Israeli government is supposed to subtract the amount that the PLO pays terrorists’ families and terrorists themselves from the tax and duty money.
That amount is 1.237 billion shekels (about $335 million dollars).
Why Netanyahu outrageously decided to turn over the 687 million shekels to the PLO can only be explained by his eternal desire to be politically correct. His decision can be lumped into the same bucket as why the illegal Palestinian settlement of Khan Al-Ahmar is still standing and why the magnetometers were removed from the Temple Mount several years ago following Palestinian terrorism there (see more about the Temple Mount in Today’s Blog below).
Talk about caving in to terrorism . . .
Jerusalem District Court Judge Irit Cohen issued a ruling yesterday that leaves your humble servant aghast.
She ruled that the PLO cannot be held responsible for various terror attacks that took place in Israel during the Second Intifada (2000-2007).
Her bizarre reasoning?
First, she says that the PLO cannot be blamed for inciting terrorism. Second, she ruled that there is no evidence that Palestinian terrorists carry out terror acts because of the financial incentives that the PLO provides.
Can you believe this?
Of course you can. It is yet another ruling from an Israeli judicial system run amok.
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Jordanians Move To Establish PLO Control Over The Temple Mount
Incredibly, the Jordanians announced yesterday that they have created a joint council with the PLO to administer the Temple Mount.
Yes, you read that correctly.
We now have a situation in which the Jordanian Islamic Wakf and the Palestinians are going to be the joint administrators of the holiest place in Judaism.
It is simply incredible and intolerable.
The obvious question is: what gives the Jordanians the right to allot administrative control over the Temple Mount to the Palestinians?
The obvious answer is: nothing.
The next obvious questions are: Where in the world is PM Netanyahu and our government? Why don’t they step in to prevent this egregious action?
The council is a further erosion of Israeli sovereignty over the Mount–an erosion that began back in 1967 which Moshe Dayan turned over administration of the Mount to the Jordanian Wakf.
