Picture of the Day:
Palestinian terrorists ran over an IDF officer and a Border Police officer early this morning near the Palestinian settlement of Naama beside the Postal Junction. The soldier, Captain Israel Meir Elitzur, was critically wounded, but is now stable in a drug induced coma following emergency surgery. The Border Police officer was “moderately” wounded. Other soldiers at the location shot and killed the two terrorists in the front seat of the car and wounded a third in the back seat.
The attack occurred when the our two men exited their military vehicle on the side of the road following a mishap. The terrorists, who had been throwing Molotovs during the night, spotted them and others standing beside the vehicle and plowed into them.
The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
Aside from the attack described above:
Palestinian terrorists firebombed an Israeli vehicle on Road 443 near the Bell Checkpoint. All Israelis in the car made it out alive.
Palestinian terrorists threw “rocks” and Molotovs at Israelis near the village of Beit Ur a-Tahta, Hizma, Mabtari Halhul, Anatot, Road 60 near Al-Khader, along the Jerusalem-Gush Etzion Road, and at many other locations.
Palestinian terrorists launched dozens of incendiary balloons into southern Israel that exploded in Netivot, Merchavim, and Ofakim. One balloon exploded between two homes in the Eshkol Region; fortunately, no one was home at the time. In response, Israeli helicopters “attacked” two more empty buildings in Gaza.

The Gate of Mercy saga continues . . .
The prayers at the Gate of Mercy compound continue in the face of our government’s feeble attempt to stop them.
The Jordanian government declared this today:
“The decision to detain the leader of the Islamic Wakf and his deputy (see yesterday’s blog) is a direct attack on the Hashemite administration of the holy sites of Islam and Christianity. The Gate of Mercy is an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and is not subject to negotiation, partition, or partnership.”
The Gate of Mercy is part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque?
If you believe the Jordanians and the Palestinians, the entire Muslim and Jewish quarters are part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Just last year, the imam at Al-Aqsa ranted that the Tiferet Synagogue in the heart of the Jewish Quarter which was destroyed by the Jordanians when they ethnically cleansed the Old City of all Jews in 1948 cannot be rebuilt because it is part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.**
The first plane lands . . .
The first international flight landed at the new airport in Eilat today. As you can see, it was a Ryanair flight.
So begins a new era in air service to southern Israel.
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Utter Absurdity Of What Is Happening In Israeli Prisons*
Try to wrap your mind around this, dear reader:
Palestinian terrorists sitting in Israeli prisons actually have their own illegal telephone system consisting of a relay network involving phones that have been smuggled into the prisons.
In the last two weeks, the IPS (Israel Prison Service) began a pilot program employing jammers in the Ramon and Ketziot prisons in order to disrupt the illegal system. Why this has not taken place before now is dumbfounding as is the Prison Service’s inability to track down the smuggled phones’ signals emanating from inside the prisons.
In any case, in response to the jamming, the leadership of the prison terrorists resigned from their positions. These “leaders” are the ones that “negotiate” with prison officials. Just the fact that the prison system negotiates with the terrorists in the prison is in itself unbelievable.
Today, the prisoners have embarked on yet another hunger strike.
To which your humble servant says: so what?
Enter the IDF.
Its spokesman issued this statement today: “In light of the overall explosion, we recommend waiting at this stage with the expansion of the pilot and reexamining the timing of its implementation in a few months, in accordance with developments.”
Since when is a hunger strike and disbanding of the prison terrorist leadership an explosion?
It is just unbelievable how terrified the IDF general command is of Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists–whether they be in prison or in Judea and Samaria or in Gaza (why do we continually bomb empty buildings and sand dunes?).
*Your humble servant thanks hakolhayehudi for elements of Today’s Blog.
**The good news is that Israel announced last week that the reconstruction Tiferet will now be completed in five years and will have roughly the same dimensions as the Hurva Synagogue with a height of 25 meters.
Correction: In yesterday’s blog, we quoted Gen. Res. Tal Russo as criticizing residents of the South for not being more “resilient.” That quote came from the description of an interview that Russo gave to the leftist Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot. This morning, the newspaper has printed an apology to Russo for misquoting him.
