The News On The Israeli Street
President Trump signs the Golan order!
As you know, PM Netanyahu is in the United States. His plan was to go to the White House today and then visit the AIPAC convention afterward. Because of the missile fire from Gaza, Netanyahu is flying back to Israel this afternoon.
While Netanyahu was at the White House, President Trump signed the executive order which officially recognizes Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
In the process of doing so, Trump made this remarkable statement:
“This recognition has been a long time in the making. It should have taken place many decades ago. . . At this moment the American embassy stands proudly in Jerusalem, the capital the Jewish people established. They wanted the embassy there for many, many years, for many decades, and frankly, through many presidents. And we got it done.”
How true.
The U.S. as well as other countries should have recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan back in 1967. Similarly, the U.S. and other countries should have moved their embassies to Israel’s eternal capital of Jerusalem way back in 1948.
But no country and no leader did. Many talked about doing so, but no one acted.
Until President Trump.
Remarkably, President Trump added these remarks at the signing ceremony:
“We will confront the poison of anti-Semitism through our words, and maybe even more importantly, our actions. In the last century, humanity witnessed the horrific consequences of anti-Semitism and a world without a Jewish homeland.
In the wake of those unthinkable horrors, the Jewish people built a mighty nation in the holy land, something very powerful, something very special and important . . .. There can be no better example of greatness than what Israel has done starting from such a small speck of sand.
Israel is an inspiration, a trusted ally, and a cherished friend. The United States will always stand by its side.”

What is startling about this statement is that Trump specifically ties support for Israel to the fight against anti-Semitism.
What Trump realizes is something that few other world leaders are willing to give voice to–namely, that those entities and individuals that engage in efforts to delegitimize Israel are at their core anti-Semitic.

Here We Go Again? Another Missile Strike On Central Israel
Early this morning yet another Hamas missile fired from Gaza hit central Israel–this time the Sharon area north of Tel Aviv. It should be noted that the missile was either an Iranian GPS missile smuggled into Gaza through one of the tunnels from the Sinai or it was an imitation of an Iranian missile manufactured in Gaza.
The missile destroyed a home in Moshav Mishmeret.
Yes. Destroyed a home.
Seven people in the home were wounded. Two were badly wounded by shrapnel and burns. Miraculously, and your humble servant does mean miraculously, no one was killed.
Almost immediately, as it did several weeks ago when two other Hamas missiles hit the Tel Aviv area, Hamas declared that the missile fire was “an accident.”
Sure thing.
The question is what happens now.
What we know at the moment is that the IDF is once again apparently attacking empty buildings and sand dunes in Gaza. However, some other telling actions have been taken:
*Netanyahu has cut short his trip to the U.S. and is on his way home.
*The IDF has called up reserves.
*The IDF has declared the “Gaza envelope” a closed military zone. Train travel from Ashkelon south has been suspended.
Will Israel finally take some definitive action? We all know from past experience that PM Netanyahu and the IDF General Command is loathe to strike at the heart of Hamas. However this time, Netanyahu faces the complication of an election in 15 days. If he does not act decisively this time, he runs the risk of losing his “Mr. Security” moniker.
And if he loses that, he could lose the election.
