The Most Amazingly Disconnected Quote of the Day:
“We have succeeded in creating an equation that would lead to a reduction in violence. The reduction in the number of balloons and violent incidents on the fence is not coincidental, and we prefer to give it an opportunity.”
IDF Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi, speaking with mayors and regional council heads along the Gaza border.
Just as Benny Gantz was five years ago when he gave his infamous “anemones” speech which falsely described the situation on the border as peaceful, Kochavi is either completely detached from reality (or maliciously suppressing it). As he was speaking, the border communities were hit with more fires from more incendiary balloons launched from Gaza. Hardest hit were the areas in and around Be’eri, Sha’ar Hanagev, and the Negev Regional Council.
Another fire at Be’eri:
Meanwhile, as these fires were burning, IDF troops intercepted a group of terrorists attempting to infiltrate from Gaza into Israel near Khan Younis.
If all of this is a “reduction in violence”, Kochavi must be getting his terminology from George Orwell. By the way, another fire struck Sdot Negev 5 hours ago.
The News On The Israeli Street
Just as we suspected all along . . .
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Iranians placed a substantial portion of their nuclear and missile production facilities underground a long time ago. Today, in the midst of increasing pressure from the U.S. in cutting funds to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, comes evidence of yet another Iranian base being built (or already having been built) underground:
Another outrageous decision from the Israel Supreme Court . . .
Here are the facts:
1. In August of 2016, 18-year-old Slonim Hasid left the Mount of Olives by bus. Near the A-Tur neighborhood, he exited the bus, and went into a small grocery store to buy himself a popsicle.
2. When he walked out of the store, a terrorist (who we will not name), stabbed Hasid with a 30 cm long weapon. Hasid was critically wounded with stab wounds to the back, shoulder, and spinal cord.
3. When interrogated by the police, the terrorist readily admitted that he carried out the attack because Hasid was “a Jew.”

4. At his trial, it was revealed that the terrorist had previous convictions for terrorism. In one case, he tried to stab a policeman. In 2014, he threw a concrete block off the roof of a building that hit a policeman in the head. If you can believe this, for that offense, he served only eight months in prison.
5. At the end of the trial, the terrorist was convicted of “sabotage with aggravated intent.” The prosecution demanded that he be sentenced to between 9 and 15 years in prison for the attack.
6. Instead, the judge the judge ruled that there were “mitigating circumstances”. He said that the attack was not premeditated, and that the terrorist’s family was in a difficult financial situation because his parents had divorced and his father had died. Finally, ludicrously, the terrorist was sentenced to only seven and a half years in prison.
7. Nevertheless, the defense attorney immediately filed an appeal with the Israel Supreme Court. Several days ago, the Court issued its ruling with Justice Menachem Mazuz saying: “You have to be a bit proportional and exercise judgment. . . Considering the overall circumstances of the case, including a spontaneous incident without prior planning, we are reducing the sentence by one year and a half to six years in prison.”
Unbelievable.
By the way, during the appeal, a psychological test report was included concerning Slonim Hassid which said that he has “mentally collapsed”; it reads in part: “The incident in which the injured person was stabbed constitutes a traumatic event that left his significant mark on the psychological aspect, and the event will take its toll on the victim for a long time, perhaps even permanently.”
Just unbelievable.
TODAY’S BLOG:
The Fake Outcry Over Ambassador Friedman’s Comment
Here is the comment from the New York Times interview with American Ambassador to Israel David Friedman that has the Israeli and international “left” all up in arms this morning:
“Under certain circumstances, I think Israel has the right to retain some, but unlikely all, of the West Bank.”
How innocuous could this have possibly been?
What planet is the “left” living on? There are almost a half a million Jews living in Area C of Judea and Samaria–in communities as large as 60,000 people.
How is it even possible to think that these people will be uprooted from their homes? The fact is that everyone, including the “left”, knows that what Friedman said is true.
Of course, Israel will eventually annex most of Area C.
To continue the false narrative that Judea and Samaria somehow “belong” to the Palestinians and that somehow all of the Israelis living there will be evacuated does nothing except perpetuate a delusion.
As we have often written on israelstreet, the sooner Israel annexes Area C, the better.
