The News on the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
On the Gaza border:
4 fires in the Eshkol region (including 3 in Kissufim), another wheat field burned at Sha’ar Hanagev, yet another fire at Zikim, another in the Simhoni Forest close to Nahal Oz, and on and on . . . the south continues to go up in smoke, and IDF is now reduced to trying to shoot the balloons down before they enter Israel (judging from today’s fires not at all successfully).
Talk about a useless declaration: the IDF COGAT Commander announced this afternooon that a “total naval blockade” will be imposed on Gaza until the “balloon” terrorism ends.
Say what? Isn’t there already a naval blockade?
Oh by the way, the COGAT commander was quick to point out Gaza fishermen can still ply their trade (smuggling weapons into Gaza) to a distance of six miles off coast.
Meanwhile, Israel has returned to threatening Hamas and Islamic Jihad that if they don’t stop the “demonstrations” at the border fence and return missing Israeli body parts from soldiers killed in the 2014 war, then Israel will not permit Qatari extortion money to be turned over to the two terror groups.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
What a sick joke. Israel has had almost 5 years to get the body parts back and has not succeeded, and nothing is going to stop the “demonstrations” because the demonstrations are what produced the Qatari money in the first place.
In Judea and Samaria:
Tuesday was typical day in Judea and Samaria with Molotovs thrown at an IDF checkpoint in Hevron, a fire started by Palestinian arsonists in Migdal Oz, and Molotovs and “rocks” thrown at Israeli motorists in such places as Sinjil.
What was also relatively typical was a firefight between IDF soldiers and PLO “policemen” in Shechem. Shomron Regional Council Chairman Yossi Dagan had this to say: “This is not the first time that the terrorists in uniform, who for some reason are called Palestinian policemen, shoot soldiers or civilians, who murdered Ido Zoldan, Ben Yosef Livnat, Rabbi Meir Hai, and many others. This incident must not be taken lightly. The Palestinian policemen who fired at IDF soldiers must be arrested immediately. ”

Great news from Jerusalem . . .
Gabriel Lavie, who was stabbed six times in the head, neck, and body in the recent terrorist attack at the Damascus Gate is showing “significant improvement”.
This is simply miraculous news, and a sign that your prayers (and Israeli doctors) are having a wonderful effect.
Meanwhile in Iran . . .
You may not be paying attention, but the Iranians are not having an easy time of it in the Strait of Hormuz. First, the strategic port of Shaheed Raja’i, just north of the Strait, has just experienced a devastating fire.
Two days ago, the Iranian media reported that six Iranian ships have been set on fire in several ports along Iran’s southern coast. Three were totally destroyed, and two more are barely salvageable.
What goes around comes around. It was just a month ago that four Saudi tankers were attacked while docked in the UAE.

Some Must Be Done: Converting Non-Jews In Israel
Something must be done.
According to statistics released this week by the Government Conversion Department, 75% of all applicants who begin the process of converting to Judaism in Israel do not finish–this despite hundreds of thousands of shekels being spent trying to ensure successful conversions.
The problem is that there is an ever growing number of people–particularly from the FSU (former Soviet Union) who qualify for Israeli citizenship by virtue of the Law of Return, but are not Jewish according to Jewish halacha. In most of these cases, a grandparent may have been Jewish but married a non-Jew. Whatever the case, Judaism ceased to be practiced in long ago.
However, many of these people want to convert and not only because of religious reasons. Many economic benefits would come to them after a successful conversion. However, the orthodox conversion process is long–often taking years to complete. Even Reform conversions (not recognized by the government) can take as long as two years.
Meanwhile, Israeli society becomes increasingly non-Judaized by having so many “non-Jews” in the country. If you don’t believe this, just take a look at all the Christmas trees on display in cities like Ashdod (with a heavy Russian population) at Christmas time.
It is long past time for this problem to be tackled head on. Either the law of aliya must be changed, or a separate conversion process must be created for people in this category.
